OK... my midi thing, SCL's midi thing (with my personal CD player plugged into it coz the CD player's broke), SCL's computer... we're a ghetto blaster short. Nah, Gemma's got one in her room I'm sure. This is totallt do-able. Week after next? I'm Not going to Reading anymore (cashflow). So I need something to make up for it (other than both Pixies shows).
I didn't get Yoshimi at all. Over the top art rock. The Soft Bulletin is quit nice, though. And their earlier stuff is better. I love that Jelly (?) video. I hear they're one of the best evah bands live, so I'm looking forward to seeing them (at some other place than a festival).
Dave toured with NIN when he was trying to win over the industrial crowd...for whatever ill advised reason. Dunno about Placebo. Do know Bowie was the one who shouted PIXIES way back when. Anyway, nobody's perfect, but db is damn close. Please, mug mug, don't make me fly over to your house and beat you with a golf club. ;-)
As much as the sight of a flying man with a golf club outside my house is amusing I have nothing bad to say about Bowie. He even covers the 'Cactus' apparently but I ain't heard it.
Did you know he was supposed to produce the first Devo album but was too busy so Brian Eno did it instead? I read that last night and he went higher in my estimation :)
The Flaming Lips are utterly superb. Brilliant albums, brilliant stage show, an they do their own soundchecking which always scores points with me. Cool cats.
Absolutely. And anyone who finds them 'dull', check out everything before the soft bulletin. You may not like it, but if you think it's dull, you've got problems. I've never felt happier after a gig than after the first time I saw the lips.
i bought 'yoshimi battles the pink robots' in the hmv sale, and love it. Its a really great album, it has put me to sleep on several (intended) occasions! :)
I can understand that - listen to their earlier stuff and you'll be amazed it's the same band. Similar gorgeous noise-beauty trajectory to mercury rev. Having said that, I think I prefer the noise...
i enjoy this band a lot and are the only band bar granddady who do the 'I can't sing but try to be like neil young' voice - excellent band - A Spoonful Weighs a Ton is their best song by far and GLasto 2000 was epiphanic
some early stuff is ok though however Zaireeka is taking it a bit too far in terms of concept

ok that means party at yours then - let's all bring a CD each then, a bottle of Magners and our fave pictures of Brainers and then tick into their 'difficult' album
I do find it funny when people think the Soft Bulletin is their first album - i.e parents and uncles trying to be trendy and messing it all up
Clouds Taste Metallic is great too innit/
Zaireeka party WILL happen.
You coming Mr. Prole?
I don't think it's 'too far' - I don't think there is such a thing as too far. But there's way too much "not far enough" around.
Some days I love the Flaming Lips and other days I don't. I gave them 4 and half stars on my profile and although I've been tempted to change it in the past, I'm sticking with it. I've not heard Zaireeka though, bit sceptical myself.
yeah have only just 'got' CloudsTaste Metallic - I got it on tape about 6 years ago and re-bought it on cd for a fiver and for some rreason it makes sense now
yes - Zaireeka party! Next Week??? LEts get MArk O Feller down for it!

I have listened to some of Zaireeka with three going, because they were on some B-sides from the Soft Bulletin singles, it sounds really good. I'll be looking forward to this. We need mr QC to provide the quadrophonic music though. When are ya free Henry?
WHenever next week, friday would be perfect as I am seeing hot snakes/ted leo on the thursday. If anyone else has a copy, it would be cool to try it with 8 cd's
OK. I think Clouds Taste Metallic is uber great. This thread actually prompted me to listen to a '84 to '90s best of thing (that Coyne preferred giving a psychedellic favor title) and it was as Coyne called it, an interesting but unremarkable set of tunes by some mediocre musicians. Therefore, I'd like to amend my previous statement. FL very early work only hints at the genius yet to come circa Soft Bulletin. FL very recent work is still a bit to avant garde for me. Highly recommend CTM. It even edges out the Hold Steady for best song titles ever. Talk about an acid trip!
Erm, remember you asked for this hollywood freak. :-)
