I need to know how to create a website in 22 days, not just a crappy geocities/angelfire job, but a decent effort, domain name and all. Thing is I know absloutely fuck all about said subject, so I wonder if anyone here who had the knowledge and could briefly outline the basics of it for me?

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

www.webmonkey.com is very helpful and will tell you many things...

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

You can get a v. cheap domain name at 123-reg.co.uk

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

Why do you NEED to? What happens in 22 days?

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

http://www.w3schools.com/

learn html and css tutorials.
you can try out different stuff online.

also, download the trial version of 'dreamweaver' off the macromedia website and just get stuck in, i'd say...

all that's if you need to know how to actually MAKE a site rather than buy domain name and hosting.

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

make some designs and pay someone to make you one ! wooo or jst use frontpage pre made templates

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

frontpage is horrible.

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

It is. Though I'd say the same about Dreamweaver.

There's only one way to make websites: Textpad

:-D

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

uhm, yeah textpad is good as just a text editor, dreamweaver IS the best though, it sometimes does my head in but it's so much more powerful and above all FASTER than anything else, and you can still use it to handwrite code. If I just used textpad at work I'd probably get the sack because I'd miss all my deadlines.

Frontpage is a pile of poop though.

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

yeh dreamweaver is awesome but really not amateur friendly surely? thats why i suggested frontpage templates....

Re: an idiots guide to creating websites?

Grab a CMS (Content Management System) and adapt it to your needs. They're free and open source.

Of course without having a clue what this website is meant to achieve I can't really help you more than that.

There are a lot of CMSs out there. We use 'Drupal' on I Shot the Deputy.
