Re: Birmingham/West Brom area / record shops / etc

There's Music and Video Exchange, but it's nowhere near as good as the London ones, Swordfish and Tempus are good indie-record stores in Brum.

Re: Birmingham/West Brom area / record shops / etc

swordfish is really really good

Re: Birmingham/West Brom area / record shops / etc

Yeah Swordfish and Readington's Rare Records. I think that's moved to Digbeth now.

Tempest records is a pretty good record shop too. Also polar bear in king's heath is ok. plus there's a place in oasis market in town under the virgin megastore.

As for venues- Jug of Ale, Flapper and Firkin, Eddies no 8, Scruffy Murphy's, Academy, Bar Academy, Sanctuary, Medicine Bar all put on gigs. obviously there are loads at the academy but the ug and the flapper are both touring toilet venues - you never know who you might catch there.

As for clubs, well, can be hit and miss... Snobs (indie Wed Fri Sat), Subway City (indie ev other Friday), Sanctuary (indie ev other Sat), Bar Academy on a Sat is ace, Academy Fri (Ramshackle - indie club) Sat (Subculture, 'rock' night), Eddies on a thurs (rock).

Oh and there's the new barfly in the sactuary basement.

That should get you started
