oh right yeah and if any1 has any recommendations of ska groups to see/check out music wise I have no restraints on combinations with other genres eg. ska-punk! if so, please fire away! =-)
There is i guess, but ska sucks balls and they have the only vaguely ska-punk album i'd be willing to listen to. not a fan of the specials or madness myself. go buy that rockville album LTJ did.
Aaaah wishpig you dark horse. I used to love Farse. And Catch 22. Incidentally many of the members of Keasby Night's era Catch 22 are now in Streetlight Manifesto, which sounds kind of similar.
My recommendation is Ye Wiles - kind of folk/ska/punk on Household Name - very...unique sounding, with a fiddle, (but not like Yellowcard)
"liek woah I'm wishpig liek lolololollol see i'm taking the piss out of people who over use lolololol. i'm so random.lolol. liek yeah. wham bam summerslam liek yeah lol"
Less Than Jake, easily the best, but Capdown are fucking excellent, so were Lightyear (sob, still having trouble coming to terms with them splitting, they were awesome).
A lot of people i know say Reel Big Fish, who are good, but i just prefer LTJ somehow cos i got into them first. Plus they don't repeat all their songs on every album they release, like RBF do.
Big shout out to the Toasters as well, they rock!
Also, check out the Pietasters, saw them live 2 years ago, awesome set, the sound was crystal clear one of the best live bands i have seen!
aw hey cheers guys thats a lotta bands down now - class!! =-) as for 'wham bam summerslam', well thats a pretty neat phrase. Did ska arrive before reggae? or (as I think...) vice versa? and from what I've 'learnt' rock n roll arrived as a result of ska and reggae, though Im probably wrong in saying that...
Yeah ska was a progression into a reggae just as rock steady and mento were a progression into ska. But when reggae took hold it kind of died down and then recieved a resurgance with "two tone" and "ska pop". So yes in theory ska predates raggae but in the context of the bands mentioned on this thread, they came long after the heyday of reggae.
hehe! ok well this is probably Illegal on this site but if any1 is interested my friend has set up a forum especially for ska, 2 tone, dub and reggae (along with all their subclasses of course) I (and she) would really appreciate it if anyone could check it out =-) its growing quickly and we're on the lookout for new members all the time ~ www.skaforum.com ~
anyway thanks to everyone who posted on this topic - I personally appreciate it massively and for those who went to Reading rock fest this year - wasnt it class?!?!?! =-D
Ska Punk is generally pretty awful. Maybe check Operation Ivy - I seem to remember them being pretty pivotal in that scene, although I could be wrong. They were on Lookout records with Greenday in the late 80's / early 90's. Maybe check them out.
But really, check some proper Ska. I'm not generally an advocate of 'best of' albums, but the Trojan Ska collections are excellent. They're 3 CD sets and you can get them in HMV for 7-8 quid - bargain. I think there's 2 volumes - buy both and thats a really good start. Plus loads of it is stuff that you can only get on vinyl or shit thats out of print.
ok cool! thanks dood! you truly are an intelligent hoodwinker!
anyway once again Itd be class to have some of you drowned in sound peeps on our forum, we need intelligent music lovers such as yourselves to support the scene which many believe is 'dieing'.
Anyway, keep Ska alive and join the revolution by visiting

thanks once again, any1 interested in having a look is more than welcome =-)
Well apparently Im under arrest so I'll so you guys when I'm out of the cell...
When I was in Italy a few years back, the brother of the girl we were staying with always had Ska-P on in his car. They're Spanish, but the songs are really good. And if you know a bit of Espanol, you can decipher naughty words like 'shit'.
