For me its Cane 141 - moon pool. Really awful.

And the Low album was a big disappointment too even if it's still a good album.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Billy Corgan - TheFutureEmbrace

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Tom vek

Just didnt live up to my expectations having seen him live

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

...And you will know us by the trail of dead - Worlds Apart.

I don't know quite what happened there.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

The Mars Volta one. Heard bags of hype on here about how utterly amazing it was. Timothy got it, and I found it worse than Maroon 5.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

im disappointed the hard-fi album actually got released

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

very true. havent listened to it since the week i bought it

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

The Spoon album isn't all that great, i keep giving it another chance but i've yet to come around to it. It lacks the sparseness and space between the instruments that made the other albums so compelling.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT want two isnt a touch on his other stuff

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Kaiser Chiefs- Employment

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

the subways. i read lots of really good things about them, got the album, and it was 100% shite.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

ah, i think I know what your problem is there.... you read lots of really good things about the Subways in NME! easy mistake to make, see also: Kaiser Chiefs; Babyshambles

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

There are lots of good or decent bands that have got lots of publicity from the NME as well, though.

I'd also second Worlds Apart, mentioned earlier in the topic.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Babyshambles' album's not out yet.

Subways got 6 in the NME.

I think its just not good, not exactly awful.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

el_pescado, are you for real? Cuts Across The Land is brilliant... though appreciate that opinions can differ. Personally I love it, all brooding and building and booming and... can't think of anything else beginning with 'b'... just ace!

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Bright Eyes - I'm wide awake it's morning.

Twas exchanged last week both for a Ween live double cd and Raw Power. Now that is value.

Spoon sounded very disappointing the few times i've listened to it. That 'lack of space' thing is totally spot on.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

i was going to say Digital Ash...but then realised its not the MOST disappointing release this year, but it by no mean was the departure it was built up to be.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I think Digital Ash is the better of the two, although it is still fairly meh. And not really a departure at all. It suits Obersto better than imitation country.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Yeah Oberst really isn't all he's cracked up to be. I like his stuff, but it's not just as wowza as the rather irritating Jo Whiley says it is.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

That latest Spoon album was the first thing I'd heard by them, I didn't undertstand what the hype was all about at all. I Turn My Camera On (Off?) grates really badly.

I got into Bright Eyes through Desaparecidos, who I love, so I couldn't understand why I didn't like Bright Eyes. Then I heard the Statistics albums (Desparecidos' guitarist, I think) and it all became clear.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Are you saying you like Statistics? I saw him play this year and he wasn't too good. Is the new album good? The older one I heard wasn't.

'I turn my camera on' sounds like the Scissor Sisters.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

The new statistics album is essentially more of the same but when the first album was so good, its another dreamy piece of fuzziness

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Caribou's one. Oh Dan. what happened?

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Oh and another vote for Trail Of Dead too. I think I just pretended that one hadn't happened..

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

For me Bloc Party - Silent Alarm. I liked Helicopter, Banquet and Little Thoughts when released as singles and expected more from the album. It didn't end up being too much to my taste.

That's just off the top of my head though.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Doves - Some Cities. it's a good album, but I loved Last Broadcast so much, it's just a complete letdown. :/

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Complete agree about Doves.
Awful album.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Little Thoughts is still the best Bloc Party song I've heard, and it was also the first, so it's been downhill since then ...

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Agree about Silent Alarm. Loved the Banquet EP but the album had some bloody dull songs on it like that one where they were lying in Autumn leaves in the video. They should stick to the more upbeat stuff on their next album.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

The Departure.

After the first single i was really looking forward to it. What a let down it turned out to be.

Style over substance methinks!

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I like a lot of these allegedly dissapointing albums.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I agree with you about the Departure album Marco. The first couple of singles were really good and they were excellent when I saw them live a year or so back, but the album sounds a bit half-arsed.

I also really can't warm to The Tears' album, as much as I've wanted to. I would have loved it if Brett and Bernard could have pulled some sort of epic super-record out of the bag after all these years, but it just sounds like a not-very good Suede album.

Dishonourable mentions also go to Billy Corgan and Doves.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

i don't have any of these albums.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Yeah, I'd pretty much agree with you there.

All Mapped Out was great, but everything since has been pretty standard stuff; ie not that great. The album (and singles after All Mapped Out) isn't bad, it just doesn't deliver on early promise. A lot of people mention the bad timing of the album as well; saying that it's 6 months too late or something. I don't understand.

The Tears' album is another that I would have loved to have loved (if that makes sense) but there isn't much to suggest that they at their very best.

Doves' Some Cities is a couple of chart friendly pop songs mixed with dull filler. A million miles away from Lost Souls.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

The Departure album is better than i thought at first listen.
It's still not above average.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I second the Mars Volta one, it's alright but I'm never in the right mood or frame of mind to listen to it.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

No, no, no you're wrong. You're all wrong. WRONG! It's brilliant. But don't try to listen to it if you haven't had enough sleep. :)

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

re: whoever it was.

go back to that spoon album and try again. it does take it's time but the craft is still there and it'll worm it's way into you.

the new super furry animals hasn't really grabbed me yet.

oh, and dcfc.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I agree. Love Kraft is a very very dull piece of work.

Eastern Lane and Idlewild were both promising great things from their new albums. Both were crap.

Personally I think Worlds Apart is really good. But then I did get into Trail of Dead late.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Kaiser Chief - returned to the music shop in 1 hour.

Eastern Lane - after a great first album this one just doesn´t add anything.

Idlewild - I decided that they r a completely different band compared to their beginnings. Crappy one.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I like the second Eastern Lane album much more than the first.
It might make my top 10 at the end of the year.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Smog's latest album has done nothing for me so far. I go to Sufjan Stevens for my folky/quiet music needs now.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I agree, the second Eastern Lane album is really good. I think it just edges it over the first.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I think Love Kraft is second only to Radiator of their albums.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I vote for Idlewild. What happened guys? You used to be so good!

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

seconded, utter shite.

honourable mention to Four Tet and Stephen Malkmus.

and mercury rev.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Hey! I think the new Malkmus album is the best of his solo efforts. And I'm rather fond of the new smog (I'm so glad he's finally got rid of those stupid brackets around his name) album as well.

I wasn't overly impressed with the kid carpet album, but he's always been better live than on record.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
Daft Punk - Human After all

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Im going to have to say Idlewild as well, theres a couple of lovelys like "Too Long Awake", but otherwise, ugh. I expected a bit of rocking out with an additional guitarist....but yawwwwwn.
I didnt get on with "Lullabies To Paralyze" either

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Yeah - good call on Daft Punk. What happened there?

I was a tad dissapointed my the new Hold Steady.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Martin Grech - Unholy
Trying to be a little clever for his own ggood maybe.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

it could just be my brilliant taste and judgement but i havent been disappointed by much at all this year, though i'm not overly taken with Sons and Daughters

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

As already mentioned:

Martin Grech
...Trail of Dead
Daft Punk

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

the Sons and Daughters album was a bit disappointing because they don't seem to have enough songs.
The Duke Spirit album had a awful production but was not as bad as some people said earlier in this thread.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Hmmm...

Pelican's 'The Fire In Our Throats...'
Mono's 'New York Soundtracks'
Death Cab's 'Plans'
Team Sleep's s/t debut

I'm sure I could go on...

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Mr Diver I definetely don't agree with u about Pelican last album. For me it's one of the best releases of 2005. About the other 3 I second

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

The Team Sleep album is amazing, but then again, I wasn't expecting anything because I hadn't heard anthing. Also (technically) Mono remix album was last year.

Agree on the Doves on, specially after Black & White town was such an awsome track. I have a disturbing feeling that the new 'Size album could get the nod though, I really hope not.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

There've been a lot of semi-disappointments. Like Trail of Dead, Mercury Rev, Idlewild and Doves, all of whose albums were not bad at all, in fact they were quite good, but I had hoped for something better. The TOD album fell apart in the last third, the Rev album was just too straightforward and lacking in the wild inspiration they used to have, the Idlewild album had some bland filler, and the same goes for the Doves album (although it's the best out of those four).

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Disagree about the Departure, was worried that they didn't quite have enough material when I saw them headline for the first time, but I think the album's definitely got something. And I don't understand most of the comparisons going around, e.g. The Killers - how do they sound anything like each other?

But don't know what to actually choose, guess I'm easily pleased.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Fischerspooner - Odessy

Sounds dated already, the guy has an annoying voice. It crumbles apart pretty quickly after the first two tracks.

Anyone who wants to buy it off me after that ringing endorsement can PM me.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

British Sea Power - Open Season

I'm stunned people are saying Martin Grech

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Dude Team Sleep and Pelican are both fantastic albums.

For me...
Bearvsshark
From Autumn To Ashes
Avenged Sevenfold (although i wasn't expecting this to be good)

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Sigur Ros- Takk
This is simply awful. Mushy, souless and over-produced.

Mercury Rev- The Secret Migration
I quite like it, but I love everything else they've done so has to go down as a disappointment.

M83- Before The Dawn Heals Us
Utterly forgettable.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

The editors. It was just so.. plain.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I agree with Editors and Mercury Rev, but I think you're all dead wrong about Doves and Bloc Party.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Kaiser Chiefs Employment.
Having heard the first few singles I was hooked. I bought the album the day it came out. It was shit. I was cured from then on. I now hate the Kaiser Chiefs.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I have to agree about Bloc Party. Some of it was just really dull. I didnt know if I just didnt "get it", but I´m pretty sure it was just dull. But then I was only disappointed because I expected so much from the EP. Hopefully the next album will show what I think (hope) they can do.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

If you haven't listened to Silent Alarm for a while, try going back to it and giving it another try. I listened to it a couple of times and didn't really get it, then had another listen several weeks later. Now I love it and it's one of my most-played albums.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

The singles (So Here We Are aside) were all really good, also a few other tracks on the album, but there were some really dull ones on there.

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

Four Tet's "Everything Ecstatic". It's flashy beats over any real substance. Sounds nang blasted out a car stereo though.

Shame on the guy who suggested the M83 one: my album of the year by a country mile!

Re: Most disappointing album of the year

I only ever skip The Pioneers and So Here We Are, the rest is all good. They're just useless at picking singles.
