DANGERDOOM

The Mouse and The Mask is one of the best hip-hop album I've heard since the first Wu Tang one. MF Doom, Dangermouse, Ghostface, Aqua Teen Hunger Force (!?), I was smiling all the way to work with this on in the car.

I really need to get into some more MF Doom. I've got MM Food, but it didn't grab me, so where else should I start?

  • Re: DANGERDOOM

    I need that.

    Victor Vaughan - Vaudeville Villain
    Madvillain - Madvillainy
King Geedorah - Take me to your leader

    Are good places to start.
    • Re: DANGERDOOM

Oh, and MF Doom - Operation Doomsday. In fact, start with that, if you can find it.
      • Re: DANGERDOOM

yes, listen to thewarn. get all 4 of those albums.

only listened to the dangerdoom album once but it was good, I keep forgetting to listen to it more.
        • Re: DANGERDOOM

get dangermouse's the grey album as well while you're at it (if you haven't already)
          • Re: DANGERDOOM

and don't forget DM & Jemini - Ghetto pop life
  • Re: DANGERDOOM

Im more excited about the Doom and Ghostface album, but Danger Doom should be cool. Looking forward to it.
  • Re: DANGERDOOM

I've had a listen and i was really underwhelmed... I don't known if it's just a bad mastering job but Doom just sounds bored and I couldn't focus on his vocals like i usually can, and the beats are just formulaic 'underground hip hop' for the most part. It's just not very good, really.
    • Re: DANGERDOOM

I've not heard too much of his other stuff, but if that's what he's like when he's not on form, I'm looking foward to hearing him when he is. I thought the beats were great though, better than anything else I've heard recently (maybe I'm listening to the wrong stuff?).
I was going to list some highlights here, but it'd basically end up a list of nearly all the tracks on the album... plus, the guy IS underground hiphop, so what were you expecting?
      • Re: DANGERDOOM

beatwise i was hoping for a bit more originality, or at least a bit more punch... Dangermouse doesn't sound unique at all, and he doesn't make up for that with any real power behind his beats. I much prefer Doom over his own or Madlib's beats, i didn't think too much of the Viktor Vaughn LPs either.

Doom just sounds really bored on this though, i'm used to a bit more variety in his tone of voice... plus lyrically this LP didn't seem to have anything jump out at me like it usually does.

DangerDoom isn't a patch on MM..Food, which wasn't a patch on Madvillainy, which was barely a patch on Operation: Doomsday :D

Operation: Doomsday is one of my top 5 hip hop LPs ever though.
        • Re: DANGERDOOM

So if I'm enjoying Dangerdoom, I'm going to REALLY enjoy Operation: Doomsday? I feel a trip to HMV at lunchtime coming on...
          • Re: DANGERDOOM

            operation doomsday is just brilliant.

if you have ears you will REALLY enjoy it.
            • Re: DANGERDOOM

Operation: Doomsday! is an out and out classic - it really defined that late 90's NY indie sound. Glad people here feel the same.

The album is now out of print due to legal issues with Marvel Comics regarding the cover, but is apparently being reissued by Rhymesayers (who put out MM..FOOD) next year.

              Also worth checking...

              KMD - Black Bastards
              KMD - Mr Hood
              King Geedorah EP
              Viktor Vaughan - Vaudeville Villain
              Madvillian LP

Personally, I thought MM..FOOD was massively disappointing and Viktor Vaughn 2 was shite. Dangerdoom is very good, only listened to the promo a couple of times - didn't want to ruin it.

And if you like DOOMs production, i'd also recommend MF Grimm's albums - 'Downfall of Iblyss', the Special Herbs and Spices Mixtape and 'Scars & Memories', which features DOOMs first appearance as DOOM rather than Zev Love X.
          • Re: DANGERDOOM

I'll guarantee that you won't find it in HMV. Give me a shout if you want me to upload it in MP3.
            • Re: DANGERDOOM

Ah well, if it's out of print I'll feel less guilty about downloading it when I get home... cheers for the offer, by the way!
