Antony and the Johnsons

What do the people of drowning sound think of this band?

I thought it was pretty normal, but then I found out he's a... man... woman... thing. I've got a photo of him on my MSN... he's painted blue with red hair. After seeing him, his music scares me. Especially 'For today I am a boy'.

Please, tell me I'm not alone.

    yeah, how could they of won the mercury awards? have you heard the radio edit? it's even weirder...

    when i first heard his voice on 'hope there's someone', i imagined this huge black guy warbling along by a piano.
    when i finally saw antony, i was disappointed to say the least.

      I knew what he looked like, and kept meaning to check him out, but didn't get round to hearing any until Mercury night. Now I've heard it, I thought it was absolutely beautiful - I'm going to buy a copy after work today (along with all the Guardian-reading, dinner party-throwing hoardes, I expect!)

    I like it. He probably should scare me, but doesn't. He just seems like some form of gentle bumbling giant. The sort you end up feeling sorry for in fairy stories. I like him.

    And some of the tunes? Wow. The first time I heard Hope There's Someone, I melted. Fucking love it, great stuff.

      It took a few listens, but the album is beautiful. Totally agree about Hope Theres Someone

      As for the guy himself, yeah he looks weird, the whole androgynous thing makes you question the music. But at the end of the day, its the music that counts - right?

      Anyway, im sure everyone thought David Bowie was weird durring the Ziggy Stardust phase - but thats gone down as legendary.

      i heard that they had one when i was driving home, then the radio station said they were going to play one of the track...i was soooo wanting to like it, you know just hear something new, give it a chance. But no - just no. I just couldn't even continue trying to like them. just awful
