England out of the top ten

I am Welsh so i have no place to gloat about the English national team(Wales are ranked 83) but what a bunch of wasters they are.

Why cant England peform to their potential?

Self belief?
Man management/motivation by management?
superiority or inferiority complex?

Does anybody honestly expect them to come home with the world cup?

The fact that sven seems to have one of the safest jobs in football and the highest wages is a joke.

After witnessing the sportsmanship of the ashes cricketers this series it has made me realise what a bunch of petulant wankers these so called "stars" are anyway.

I agree on the sportsmanship front for sure. It was inspiring to see Australians congratulating the English on 'good wickets' and vice versa; not just at the end when they've already lost etc.
  • Re: England out of the top ten

England do have some fantastic players, but at the minute it just seems as though the team spirit isn't there. The situation at the minute isn't a great one, but it's fixable.

It could be worse, for instance look at France and their ageing squad, or Italy and Germany who aren't even close to being the forces they used to be. At least we have plenty of top-quality players in the squad, most of whom are in their early to mid 20s.

Changing the manager and putting in someone who will build a strong team ethic would help. Sven should go, but sacking him this close to the World Cup would be foolish timing.

i said it before on here....as soon as they turf beckham out, their fortunes will improve!!
      • Re: England out of the top ten

Thats stupid, he was our best player for the Wales and N.Ireland matches. Without any doubt at all. As soon as he turfs Joe Cole out....
        • Re: England out of the top ten

I agree with Browno, sacking sven this close to a world cup would be pretty stupid. So the FA will probably do it within weeks. The one good thing I can say about the northern Ireland fiasco was when rooney got booked and Beckham had a go at him, at least they were playing with some passion. Most of the team looked like they couldn't be bothered. I'd rather have a team of players from Championship clubs who actually want to represent their country, and feel proud to do so, than a bunch of premiership superstars who look like they don't give a shit.
        • Re: England out of the top ten

james_delve...you think what i am saying is stupid do you???

Beckham was a right midfielder...but he is too slow to play there now....so he influences erikkson to play him in the only position on the field where he can spray passes around.....and thats all he can do now.....but this nuetralises the talents of rooney, lampard and gerrard as they have not got a clue where they are playing. the whole balance of the team is off........yeah he sprayed fancy passes around against Northern Ireland and Wales......but what did that gain England????? Nothing!! Beckham doesent have the legs to run that much anymore.....so he disguises his incapability with long, hollywood passes. Any pundit will tell you the same......he should not be in the side......but he is because he has far too much influence in the England set up
          • Re: England out of the top ten

I tend to agree with James.

In reality there is more to his game than just passing, although you could argue that his passing ability and prowess at set-pieces warrants his place alone. I disagree that his legs have gone. He's older and slower than before but in the last 3 games he's got around the pitch more than any other player (Rooney included). SWP would have got around more had he been given a fucking chance.

I agree about his position as a holding midfield player neutralising Gerrard and Lampard, but I think this is something the coaches should be able to deal with.

Also I don't think anyone is in a position to say he has too much influence on the England set-up without knowing what goes on behind the scenes. I think generally he's good for England.
            • Re: England out of the top ten

dont agree mate.....lampard and gerrard are centre midfielders and have done more in this position...and in a faster paced premiership.....to warrant a starting place. whats beckham done.....played for the 'galacticos' who have won nothing...NOTHING!

beckham is simply not a force at the highest level anymore....whilst he was on holiday...lampard was lifting up the premiership trophy and gerrard the champions league

you will see that i am right. beckham is a master of disguise....whenever he is having a bad game....if someone else scores he is the first to be there as he knows this will get him on the front cover of the papers
              • Re: England out of the top ten

As soon as England start playing the right players in the right positions, stop fannying about with formations that don't suit the players and instill self belief, passion and pride into the players they'll do ok. One way of doing this would be to get rid of the manager and get someone that can embrace all of those things, get the best out of the players and actually have the balls to drop one or two star names for the sake of putting a balanced team on the park.

I'm a Scotland man myself, and go and watch my team regularly. The difference in our team since Walter Smith took over from Bertie is unbelievable. England have the players to reach the quarter finals of the world Cup at least, but they'll be lucky to get through a play off if they take their current form into the Poland game - they are a very good team.

I just can't believe, given the talent they have, that England are such a shit team to watch. They actually start games against inferior opposition with a plan not to get beat. They have no width, invention or flair - and that's in a team with Gerrard, Wright-Phillips and Rooney. The buck has to stop with the manager.

                Sven Must Stay!!!!
                • Re: England out of the top ten

AJ should have started. Fuck Rooney.
  • Re: England out of the top ten

Personally, I would like to see England get a new manager before the world cup. It might be hard for the players to adjust to a new manager's tactics in such a short space of time, but whatever a new manager could bring to the side has to be an improvement on the state England are in at the moment under Sven.
    • Re: England out of the top ten

And they have to adjust to a new formation every game anyway. It may be difficult for a new manager to communicate his ideas to the players in such a small time, but it's better than not communicating then at all, a la Sven.
