Now we all love to have a moan about djs being totally charmless and totaly surplus to requiement as human beings but I have to announce that this man surely is the man who shames the very notion of the word dj by just leaving the house in the morning - have you heard his show? Apart from feeling immediately under the influence of a spiked drink once you hear his droning voice and hackneyed 'you the listener' platitudes he plays the most conservative middle of the road indie/rock/pop known to man. Next to him daytime xfm is like listening to Stockhausen. In a wind tunnel. On drugs. After a night out with Musique Concrete.

In these dangerous times (music wise) and with so many forms of media to make a difference why do we have people who think that its ok for an alternative radio station to play the Foo Fighters and Snow Patrol (a live version of Run - why?) constantly on a tape loop when commercially run stations do that as par of the course. If I said he played a Buzzcocks song last night I bet you can guess within a nanosecond which one it was. Prick.

Re: Tom Robinson

But.... but....

'5-6-7-8....'

Re: Tom Robinson

oh yes I forgot that he used to be 'glad to be gay' as well but he "never talks about that now I'm married" - his sexuality is irrelevant but that fact he made such a toe curlingly crass and patronising song and then goes - 'nah i can't be arsed now' would really piss me off if I was indeed 'glad to be gay' and looking for a role model in difficult times. Idiot

Re: Tom Robinson

I've got an old mid seventies Ibanez flying v which I think used to belong to the Tom Robinson Band. Yours for £550 prole since you're obviously a fan.

Re: Tom Robinson

"which I think used to belong to the Tom Robinson Band"

That's as good as a certificate of authenticity that is.

I've got a highlighter pen here that I think may have been owned by Lemmy once.

Re: Tom Robinson

Two questions:

Who the fuck is he?
What radio station is he on?
And when?

Re: Tom Robinson

Sorry THREE questions:

Who the fuck is he?
What radio station is he on?
And when?
And why are you listening to him, then?

Re: Tom Robinson

Sorry,

I'll come in again.

....

Re: Tom Robinson

I bought it about 20 years ago.

It has their band logo spraystenciled onto the hardcase and I've seen some video footage where someone had a guitar.

Yours for £545.

Re: Tom Robinson

i aint paying £545 for that

i will swap you it for a bass that was used by the fella from bachman turner overdrive

deal?

Re: Tom Robinson

Oh I thought this was a Paul Robinson thread. Doh.

Re: Tom Robinson

Lol, you beat me to it, damn you!

Re: Tom Robinson

I belive your a drummer. 'Nuff said ;0)

Re: Tom Robinson

you're

Re: Tom Robinson

Ha ha, I'll have you know my timing is impeccable...as is my rhythm ;-)

Re: Tom Robinson

Sleazy cunt.

...in the best possible way of course.

Re: Tom Robinson

Of course darling, wouldn't have it any other way!

Re: Tom Robinson

He is on 6 music - a so called alternative to the incoherent ramblings of xfm and radio 1 and he does the Evening Session on there and you'd think he'd take up the gauntlet by playing something abbit mroe daring than playlist-olia and 'selected' predictable oldies - he also had a chart career spanning, ooh 6 months

Re: Tom Robinson

Hmm, I'll admit it's not a very inspiring list (last night's):

Re: Tom Robinson

Who is Tom Robinson ?

Re: Tom Robinson

I switched off after the Buzzcocks

As a BBC station you'd think they'd be more 'radical' and daring - apart from Stuart Maconie most of the shows are similar to the above play list with varying levels of tawdriness between the djs (Liz Kershaw surely has to be played by a satirist these days)

I just think its a waste of a good bbc service that is slowly going downhill and I wanted to use Robinson as an example

Re: Tom Robinson

Has Riley still got a show? He played some alright stuff.

Re: Tom Robinson

Riley is indeed on there but as a DJ he makes a good Fall drummer (?)

Actually Jarvis Cocker stood in for him once and I have to say he not only played some ace songs but gave a case for himself as being prob the best dj we have never had.

Its funny no one knows who Tom Robinson is - that sort of sums it all up really

Re: Tom Robinson

Don't worry Lyle, I don't know either!

Re: Tom Robinson

I worry because nobody answer me...

Re: Tom Robinson

I'm still gutted it wasn't Paul...

Re: Tom Robinson

I thought he was a cripple who had a taste for Serbian pussy.

Re: Tom Robinson

He had one hit "2 4 6 8 motorway" he became famous becaue he was gay, bizarrely the song became chanted at local football club discos by chavs who were probably homophobic, He made a 'not brilliant but oft repeated song, got his fortune by getting on a gay bandwagon, and allowed other celebreties to stroke his head thus showing publically that they weren't homophobes.

(Stroking his head was meant figuratively (like petting a dog) not lterally)

Re: Tom Robinson

Now this is someone useful.
Thanks creakyknees.

Re: Tom Robinson

Gil Scott Heron? Deus? Stop moaning!

He interviewed Mark E Smith a couple of months ago on his show too.

Re: Tom Robinson

You cant just let it go at that what happened....was mark e smith fractious?
