Dear Haters...

Over the past few weeks a few people have been slagging off my favourite new band, Komakino, on here. It was all good humoured. And probably half of it was because I like them so much, and like, I set up DiS.

To balance things out, have you say whence you've lissened to these or let the debate about straightened hair continue...

I quite like it, although it *really* reminds me of "When I Argue I See Shapes" by Idlewild. Saw em live about 18 months ago at the barfly and they were pretty impressive - singer really reminded me of a young stephen lawrie from the telescopes (stylewise, not voice).

i noticed the 'shapes' thing as well. hurrah, i'm not mental.

komakino = great. i think people are too quick to judge them on their hair though. which is, admittedly, such good hair that it seems terribly unfair that they should have both that hair *and* musical talent. yes. their beauty is a curse upon them.

I think they sound pretty good. Not blown away by the tracks, but that said I can't understand the vitriolic backlash.

They need to sort out their website though!!

What are they like live?

Yup, ignored them up till now but have admit they are not that bad.

Does the world need another band with this angluar to jangly sound tho - I really doubt that they are going to set the world on fire.

Not really a fan of the singer's fake whiney US accent (or if he is a Yank then I'm just not a fan of it, though it's mitigated by not being fake).

Say Something sounds like Blink 182 as a result, to me, though I don't actually hate them so that's not a back-handed insult.

RedStarUFO is decent Sonic Youthy slice, though.

The Last Defence sounds a bit wet frankly and annoyingly accousticy.

Anyway, not convinced they're anything unbelievable. Don't strike me as shit but then I've not seen them live or heard a whole album. They might pall quickly...

Haters, ha!
I gave you the benefit of the doubt, and listened to that track and I still have the negative opinion i had of them before, based on their TCTC supporting slot.
What hair straighteners do they use btw?

Yeah, I think they're pretty decent. Nothing amazing though. The singer looks like that Texas woman a bit.

Doesn't sound anything like the shouty racket stuff they played a couple of years back when I saw them at the Scuda in Manchester. Not melodic enough for me but its good to see a couple of lads from Burnley doing well.

I gave it a listen... not my thing in the slightest. But you know that :-p

They do sound a bit like idlewild. Just, well, not as good. And more of a whiny pop punk emo sound. I guess some people like that stuff and some of those people will like this band
