Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Little Britain!!

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

hear hear

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

i manage to find my family horribly amusing

the rest though, agreed

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

hardware...with martin freeman...what was he thinking

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

oh yeah, that was really awful.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Another one with Martin Freeman... The Robinsons, or something like that. About a family, I think. That was awful.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

All of those and...

Little Britian
Extras *hides* ... ok well, not the unfunniest comedy EVER, but a massive disappointment in my opinion.

I have Jimmy Carr's stand up DVD and it's not that bad, though everything I've seen him in on tv recently has been terrible. Does that make me a bad person?

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I agree with extras, that was not funny, it was the same I'm-not-racist racism and cringey jokes about disabilites and stuff that they had in the office, except not funny. I liked the office... meh..

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I think it got by because of all the film stars, the odd funny moment and the fact that it's Ricky Gervais.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

The League of Gentleman?

I watched The Mighty Boosh the other week, and it was damn awful.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

League of gentlemen is awesome...Extras was supremely dissapointing and a show called babes in the wood is the unfunniest comedy ever, i think Samantha Janus was in it cos I remember watching it because Game On was awesome

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

The Mighty Boosh is brilliant! Which one was it? Watch another one.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

It was the coconut one... i just didn't find it funny.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

The sitcom with Jasper also had Nina Wadia in it - I won't hear of any criticism of Nina.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I hate Nina Wadia. I can think of nothing I don't want to criticise her for.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

You have no passion

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I have plenty of french fish! I don't know who Nina Wadia is I'm afraid. Just being contrary.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

she's off 'goodness gracious me', which was terrible.
see also: coupling, will and grace and the one with davina mcall & that irish fella (ed burns i think, but i'm not sure. to be sure)

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Hardware - surely the worst?
Coupling
The Jasper Carrott one
The one Denise Van Outen did
Game On - haha I know many of you like it but its just pub culture laddish gash like MBB
The one written by the Rabb C Nesbitt creator about the black family.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Last of the Summer Wine, too.
SHITE.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Oh yeah the denise van outen, god she's a witless slag.

I never saw the rabb c nesbitt one, I can only imagine it was a complete car crash.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

'Coupling' is great. How is it not funny?

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

start with the name - coupling - comedies of errors between the sexes - yawn. It's very archaic and outmoded. I can't see anything funny about it at all.

for bad comedy film see There's Something About Mary.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

So OK, it's not the most original premise in the world, but it's very well observed. You can't tell me that it never makes you laugh. At least a handful of times every episode, I'll warrant.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Seriously Raanraals, it. never. makes . me . laugh. EVER. That's why I find it so so unfunny plus the observations pertain to people with a certain mindset about love and life - the Bridget Jones generation of which I am not. I just think the whole show can be watched as an average programme without the comedy tag. Then again relationship sitcoms/comedies never grab me. I prefer the frustration of not getting any on The Office or Peep Show mmm Peep Show.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

i always found 'men behaving badly' about as funny as a quartely gas bill

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Black Books
Arrested Development

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Black books is brilliant, I disagree muchly.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

They never sell any books.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

You're right, that would make it funnier. You should send your suggestion into channel 4.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Nothing funnier than selling books. The hours I've spent laughing at the counter in Waterstones.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Heil Honey, I'm Hitler

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

*Home.

I'm forever getting home and Hitler muddled up. If you see someone trying to insert a back door key into some dusty old dictator bones, that'll be me.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

There are loads of duff shitcoms but My Family is the smuggest and most like to make me machine gun my telly. If I had a machine gun. Which I don't.

Whoever said "Black Books" is wronger than dog poo on toast.
Also whoever said "Last of the Summer Wine" shame on you sir. Shaammmme on youuuuuuuuuuu. (okay it's not technically funny and I don't watch it but I find it comforting to know it's there.)

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

My family is offensively smug. It's the dad bloke, and the mum one...

oh the wit, what a disfunctional yet hilarious family! I really wish my family was as funny as them!

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

but the son is brilliant, he has a crazy face.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

JDTraynor, outside NOW!

Arrested Development is brilliant!

And the unfunniest comedy EVER is an American sitcom called The Pitts. Anyone who's been up past 2 on a weekday (insomniacs and students basically) and flicked onto ITV may have caught it.

You know in Family guy or any other American comedy series where they have a fantasy sequence in which the characters imagine they're in a really bad American comedy series and everything is exaggerated and the laughtrack is clearly a tape recording, and it's just embarrassingly awful? Well, this is like that, but all the time, just jaw-droppingly bad. It goes off the scale of bad, past so bad it's good, and reaches the level of "how did anyone ever think this was a good idea" bad. Hardware was brilliant in comparison. Seriously.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I've said that about the Pitts on here before - its so bad its good. I've actually thought quite deeply about this before, and I think its deliberate.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I've considered that actually, I mean, really, it's shocking. Surely someone involved in the making of it must have stood up and said, wait, this is the worst thing ever? Maybe it is deliberate, but it was still painful to watch. I had to watch 2 or 3 episodes just to make sure I wasn't kidding myself.

I felt so bad for Dylan Baker as the dad, because he's a very talented actor, he deserves better.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I really, really, really, REALLY wish I could find some episodes of this. It's a real car crash, "what WERE they thinking?" sitcom..

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Baddiel's Syndrome. It existed.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Definatelty the one with Jasper Carrot, an Indian Family and a spastic.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

This thread is "unfunniest comedy" not "unfunniest sitcom" so I'd like to give a mention to "meet the fockers" - Schindlers List had more laughs.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

For most over rated bigness whilst being completely shit I nominate Friends. I hate it hate it hate it.

I am fond of Barbara and Keeping Up Appearances on a sunday afternoon though, kind of hungover soft mash for your head.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

SPACED
SEINFELD
CATHERINE TATE
NIGHTY NIGHT
MY FAMILY
LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE (32 years and STILL not been axed)
THE OFFICE

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Seinfeld????

Prole, get out.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Seinfeld???????????????????? Idiot.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

yeah. spaced. that wasn't funny at all.

....!?

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Repossessed is truly terrible.

I have to say that Futurama is pretty poor, certainly Series 3.

A lot of the stuff listed here isn't really that bad.

Pretty much anything the ITV ever tried to foist onto us is infinitely worse.

I always thought Big Train was basically gash, though.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

The bass solo at the beginning makes me laugh though...

I dont enjoy many american comedies as they are either 'goofy' or like, you know 'clever' and there are 432 writers per episode - I mean would somebody die laughing watching Will & Grace? (obscure ref. to a man who died laughing at the Goodies)

Futurama is very good - and has pathos and bathos in bucketloads - the one with Fry's dog in always makes me sad

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Seinfeld was absolute genius. At it's funniest it was untouchable by anything on either side of the Atlantic (including The Simpsons, Family Guy, Father Ted, The Office etc). 'Clever'? Only because you have to concentrate for 30 minutes as seemingly minor detail develops into comedy farce/tragicomedy in the same way you had to with Fawlty Towers. I think you mean it never underestimated it's audience, which very few sitcoms can be accused of these days

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Ever watched Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps? Apparently you can scrape through the bottom of the barrel and keep going on the other side.
I would also like to nominate Family Guy. It's fucking hilarious, but does anybody else think it's incredibly chauvinist?

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Hear hear on 'Two Pints...' Utter. Fucking. Pump.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

emm, watch the family guy episode where the main guy is sent to a womens retreat. i think the main joke is how chauvinist he is.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I'm not saying that comedy has to be like Friends or no-one will watch it -I also don't think Im ignorant/thick/serial killer if I choose not to like it - that is the wonder of the Will to Power surely? I just took a dislike to Seinfeld when I was at college and it hasn't abated - please dont think I only watch Metal Mickey and My Two Dads whilst wondering why i just don't 'get' So Haunt Me

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Two and a half men or whatever it's called, the one with Charlie Sheen.

That's crap, that!

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

The unfunniest comedy film I've ever seen is 2001: a space travesty. It's a Leslie Nielsen film, before any Kubrick fans start frothing at the mouth. It's like a bad live action loony tunes cartoon, the jokes (and slapstick, the guy's in his late 70s, he really shouldn't be doing slapstick any more!) are relentless and come one after the other for a whole 90 minutes, and pretty much every one falls flat. It's quite a trying experience, you want to laugh once in a while, it's just not possible.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

The Chris Isaak Show

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I used to hate Seinfeld, then a friend insisted we watch it all the time on Paramount Comedy and the genius of it dawned on me. I really want to get it on a DVD box-set.

Anyway, worst. Did anyone ever see that Mad About Alice with Jamie Theakston and Les Dennis' ex? It was awfull.

I think the americans generally take the biscuit when it comes to crappy sit-coms though. We are after all, talking about the country where the guy from Everybody Loves Raymond is the highest payed actor on television.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Didn't Denise Van Outen AND Davina McCall have their own comedy 'vehicles' - just proves how much cocaine gets in the way of reason sometimes

Paul Merton is a genius panellist but as a sitcom writer my mum is better at tilting windmills than he is at writing a 'classic'

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I think Little Britain was ok, but the only ever made one episode.

Sorry, they made more but I lost the will to understand the differences.

I guess it'll be the same with Tittybangbang. I didn't watch it as the Times' review said it was awful and it's description of scenes made them sound atrocious.

Let's be honest, it's all about fucking catchphrases now. Either the comedians are too lazy to create new characters and actual new scenarios, or we are too stupid to realise we are being ripped off.

Bo Selecta can go on the shit list too. If i'd ever found it funny it would have been ruined by being woken up at 6am on a saturday by a goon at the mill behind me shouting "tee-hee" and "cha-mone" again. and again. and again.

Whilst we're on the subject of goons. Wasn't the goon show great!?!?!?!

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Oh Christ yes I caught a bit of that Tittybangbang (I was hopeing it was porn, or a documentary about porn), it was gouge-your-eyes-out and stick a drill in your ear awfull.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Maybe women aren't funny.

Can we name some funny women?

The best I can come up with is Victoria Wood and that women on the news quiz simon hoggart does on radio 4.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

French and Saunders are sometimes funny. Murder Most Horrid used to make me laugh.

Also these* comedy shows are full of (well usually about half full of) women. You can be a comedic actor without being directly behind the creative process.

*Hmm maybe not such a good idea to use these shows as an example, bu you know what I mean, like?

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Green Wing is great, as was the show they did before. I wish I could remember it's name...
Kathy Burke is funny.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

and Linda Green who's always on Have I Got News For You (well that's how I know of her anyway)

But the point is a fair one; it's more difficult to list a string of women than men. You could say that about many things, though. The reason for this probably goes a little deeper than men simply being funnier than women in general.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

French and Saunders make me sick.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

"Wasn't the goon show great!?!?!?!"

Yes.
Though some of it is utter bobbins.

I have named my cactus:
Bluebottle
Seagoon
&
Eccles

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Futurama is GENIUS, you heathen!

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Joey

I can't be arsed reading all this, but I just tried to find Joey - why has no-one mentioned this. It is awful.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

that was shite wasn't it.

I mean I didn't really like friends, but joey was at least sometimes funny in that, now he is just dense and inane and not in a funny way.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Also I've just done a quick scan and I can't see...

MY HERO

...too fucking obvious.

Unless you all love it. Do you? Well? I'm waiting?

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

oh my god, how did I forget that.

that was a benchmark for unfunny toss

can 'that dougle bloke' only play stupid people or what? he was ace as dougle though, obviously.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

and we forgot the VICAR OF DIBLEY

but there's a 'kookie' one in ther who asks funny questions like a child would and its written by RICHARD CURTIS which is an anagram of Chinless Tedium - ooh ha ha ha

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

dont fuck with Family Guy, Ive been watching every episode ever back to back for the last week. It IS funny. very fucking funny.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

I didn't say it wasn't funny. It is. However, count how many times women get hit by men in it.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Family Guy is terrible.

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

Vicar of Dibley wasn't 'my thing' but it didn't make me want to poke my eyes out - the kind of reaction shows like MEET THE MAGOONS induces

Re: Unfunniest "Comedy" Ever

This wins: short-lived Desmonds spin off:

Porkpie

I've never wished for the dubious charms of a nuclear winter descending on all mankind until I saw Porkpie
