Imogen Heap and producer Guy Sigsworth collaborate on this mature, largely electronic, album. Frou Frou are not for pubescent skate gangs and they won't be getting any invites to appear on SMTV. Frou Frou are for adults, probably with cd multichangers in their family saloon.
This should not be seen as a completely bad thing though. Although comparisons have been made between them and daytime radio queen Dido they do have more than a handful of good, if not overly ambitious, tunes. Lyrically we're talking about proper grown up relationships and modern day situations. 'I'm Not Over You' is a case in point, "I join the queue on your answerphone, hear me out...".
Sounding somewhat studio heavy Details does present a range of safely measured mid tempo production experiments. 'Must Be Dreaming' has hints of St Etienne whilst the unashamedly synthetic drum programming on 'Only Got One' brings a touch of classic New Order to a ballad otherwise safely in the aforementioned territory of Eminem's lady friend. 'Maddening Shroud' is the big surprise of the album though, sounding like a potential hit for S Club 7 with it's simple structure and open vocals. Shame it will probably get programmed out at dinner parties because of it's insanely pop rebelliousness.
For the techie types there are some good things to be found on the interactive part of the cd. Along with a lengthy interview there's a quirky little animation to introduce the project. Shame they're not quite as fun as the cartoon makes out. Still, pleasant enough to do the washing up to.
