The video for Johnny Cash's Hurt made me weep. Simply, the greatest video of all time. I love it.

Re: Hurt
Seconded.
Re: Hurt
I disagree. It seems to easy to say oh it's the greatest video ever. Sure, it's a dying legend looking over his career. So? 95% of his other stuff is better than the cover.
Re: Hurt
I disagree.
Hurt is a magnificent cover, with a great video.
Re: Hurt
But none of his other songs have as beautiful a video, do they?
Re: Hurt
i thought the video was boring.
Re: Hurt
i dont like this song or video, he could have covered something better, like I Feel Good
Re: Hurt
That video is the type that just makes the hairs stand on the back of your neck no matter how many times you watch it.
Re: Hurt
I love this video so much
Re: Hurt
Its a very good cover, but to be honest his stint on American was based on cover versions. Cash has written a hell of a lot of songs that are better than this. The main reason it got so popular is that he and June died a few months after filming the video.
Tragic, but then they were both quite old. Great musician, but not a particularly great video. Even American IV has better songs than Hurt on it. I love Cash, but i do tend to prefer the stuff he was releasing in his earlier days.
Re: Hurt
The Video does make me shed a tear, but if youlisten to the song with some proper good headphones it will have a more tear flooding effect. Tis such a beautiful cover.
However, Man Comes Around is one of his best songs in my opinion.

Re: Hurt
It got airplay over here a good 6 or so months before him and his wife kicked it. I remember seeing it on TOTP2 and thinking "holy shit, this video is such a bummer - he must be dying". And in my opinion, any video that makes me think anything other than "nice rack" or "I would like to kill everyone involved in this with a brick" must have something going for it.
NB: Especially considering the original version of Hurt was gash.
NNBB: Johnny Cash's earlier material was country music. Putting aside the whole phenomenon whereby Cash has come to be the country artist it's okay for Indie Kids to like (ever since that Hurt video, I note), it really must be re-iterated here: Country sucks.
...Bluegrass is alright.
...but country sucks.
Re: Hurt
I don't like it at all.
Its too creepy, and I think it tries too hard to be 'haunting', and crosses the line into being clichéd, for me.
Re: Hurt
it's a wonderful song and a wonderful video. if you like this you should hear his covers of u2's 'one' and sting's 'i hung my head'
Re: Hurt
Everytime I listen to the song I cry. Makes singing along to it difficult.
Re: Hurt
maybe you shouldn't listen to it then.
Re: Hurt
I'm fine by the time the next song in my playlist comes on. I think its cathartic.
Re: Hurt
I like it. It's much better than the original. The video is awesome. Thank feck he changed 'crown of shit' to 'crown of thorns'.
Didn't Rick Rubin choose the songs to cover for those American albums?
His I See A Darkness cover is also good.
Re: Hurt
His Darkness covers are crap.
Re: Hurt
Personal Jesus & Rusty Cage are both ace covers. Hurt IS the best though.
