Hope of the States

Hope of the states are truly brilliant, one of the greatest and most touching bands I have heard in years

  • Re: Hope of the States

no, i think hots are boring and overrated. its ok, but its just so unoriginal and conventional. its just diet gsybe. they hype doesnt wash
    • Re: Hope of the States

You have obviously never seen them live or heard them you small minded twit- boring? They are the total opposite
      • Re: Hope of the States

i have seen them twice, when they were unsigned. dont get me wrong, i think its ok. its just its so derivative of other forms, mercury rev, sigur ros, godspeed...lets see where they got from here then. and i dont understand why people dont see that, its just a bit too po faced
        • Re: Hope of the States

I am not having a go, (well maybe a little bit!), but K, how can you say they are derivative- I love all of the bands that you mentioned, but I can't really see where you are coming from. When have any of those bands ever written, (with the exception of M.R.) a song that is under 5 minutes which actually has a good tune? They don't stand for the same things and I would have expected someone who has seen them to uncerstand that. You are obviously too thick.
          • Re: Hope of the States

hey man, im a nice guy and i got 3 A's at a level, so i am not a thicko, trust me...some bands u fall in love with, some bands u hate cos they are watered down radio friendly versions of bands that u adore...

I THINK YOU ARE BEING THE PO FACED ONE HERE YOU ELITIST TWAT- GROW UP AND GET OUT OFF YOUR 'OOH THEY ARE GONNA SELL RECORDS SO THEY AREN'T ANY GOOD ' HIGH HORSE YOU BEANIE WEARING MAN WITH NO GIRLFRIEND WHO SITS IN THE DARK AND LISTENS TO RECORDS THAT SELL 4 COPIES EVER. p.s. who cares about your a levels, I have got a degree in maths
              • Re: Hope of the States

I saw them in Birmingham, about 50 people turned up. The singer/keyboard player had a strop at the end of the set and looked a bit upset that the audience didn't like them as much as the press does.

They were OK, they seemed to try to make a pop version of the Constellation sound. Oh and A Silver Mt. Zion & Frankie Sparo both have tracks under 5 mins with tunes, hooks 'n everything. :D

To be honest I wouldn't mind checking them out again, missed them at Glastonbury due to a clash, but ended up standing behind one of them for the next band.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing they are doing but it's hardly as revolutionary as some people (and their comedy uniforms) would have you believe.

                twat.

that just says that you really are getting to old to get in such a disgustingly stagnent non-argument

I have a degree in journalism. Does that make my opinion more important than anyone elses? Or am I also a twat?

For the record, HOTS are okay in my book - nothing particularly special, and certainly not worthy of quite so much hype (see also: Dogs Die in Hot Cars, Razorlight) but good nonetheless.
                  • Re: Hope of the States

Haha. Degree in journalism? Yep, that's useless...
                    • Re: Hope of the States

                      I dunno... not totally useless.

At least I'm being paid for journalistic work.

Although my opinions still count for shit!
