the album's not amazing, but it's comfortably familiar enough to just put on while you're reading or something.

still, there's nothing wrong with imitating the Velvet Underground (as I too believe Les Strokeurs do). Jonathan Richman made it a musical direction and no one with half a brain can deny how excellent he is.

Remember when everyone said the strokes were a ramones tribute band? And a blondie one? And a television one? Christ, I even heard them compared to the wedding present.

oh pete marry me! i thought i was the only one in the world who thought this
                    • Re: 5 words on the new single

                      Guns 'n' Roses, they're the G'n'R for the 2000's

proved by G'n'R members on the next single etc, they *are* them in personality and musical direction (updated and changed for eth times obviously)

                      word is bond.

                      ollie.
                    • Re: oh shite.

New York Dolls tribute band I say, and not a very good one at that.
If 'Someday' is one of the best songs ever then I suggest you get yourself down to your local record shop pronto and start listening to more music.
Unless you are Mark Beaumont/Ben Knowles/ (insert NME journos name here) that is, in which case part of your employment contract obviously states you have to promote The Jokes at every possible opportunity.

New York Dolls? Fuck off. Have you even heard The New York Dolls?
                        • Another one!?

...dont i recall there being a song of the album which came out like LAST YEAR called someday?..... hmmmm
                          • Re: oh shite.

ok. i shall listen to more. music.

                            problem solved.

                            surely.
                          • Re: Another one!?

i think the most scandalous thing is that they *still* won't release any new songs as b-sides.
                        • Re: 5 words on the new single

oh my god!! i had given up hope in convincing anyone of this, let alone finding anyone who already thought so too. yay! :D

you wouldnt believe how fecking long it's taken me to remember the name of that Elton john song too...!

not only this but i've read 3 reviews this past week now that have mentioned "The Rapture" and "The Cure" in the same sentence....... *grins at adie*
