EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

I was skulking around mcr on saturday and passed a mass of adolescent emo children congregating on the lawn outside urbis (where mick rock is showing some photos whoo) do any users of dis belong to this collective and do they remember seeing a rod stewart lookalike strolling around at lunchtime?

my point is, why is this area used by these lot? safety in numbers? is it a good place to skateboard? and why do they stick them black hoop things in their ears that make them turn into elephant ears?

personally i think they need a messianical figure to preach to them and show them the error of their ways. teach them about sam cooke and the beatles

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Urbis tried to combat this by starting up courses for them to take part in but it's highly unlikely that they were getting involved. As long as I can remember there's been hordes there - they don't skate at all, the land there is pretty flat with no obstacles to make use of. They just stand around all day in groups.

Rod stewart lookalike? why who was that?

The Mick Rock exhibition sounds good. Hopefully it's a bit more detailed than the punk one.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Yeah, but they're a bit more bareable then chavs.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

the rod stewart lookalike was manchester's very own jeff wootton! if i was manager of urbis i'd pay a load of chavs to chase them all off... but then there's old woman who swallowed a fly problem.

its a fiver to get in to see the exhibition, i thought it was a bit steep.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

they should lower the entry fees considering the actual urbis exhibitions are dull. The punk one was £3. Rock seems like a funny character. This band won a photoshoot with him- they were called The Deadbeats so he said:
"Look at you you bunch of deadbeats! What are you inbreds!" because they did look amazingly alike.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

there's a difference between emo kids and scenesters. i doubt the people you were referring to are emo kids.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

What is said difference? I hear the term "scenester" but what exactly is it? Seems to me kids are all turning into cartoon characters (huh - rich coming from an ex-Mod!). Those earrings make them look like teddy bears....

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Emo-schemo! They are just kids who wear the dark hoodies with Korn or NIN or whatever on them or those army shirts. They come into town on weekends mostly because they live in small shit heaps outside Manchester where there is nothing to do.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

i work at the coop bank opposite the urbis and have to encounter this every day. sometimes when me and colleagues walk into town we walk around the urbis, past these youngsters to see if we can handle it. normally we can.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Those kids wouldn't harm a fly - they're just the people phrases like 'you're making the place look untidy' are aimed at.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

I happen to live in one of those small shit heaps.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

urbis is one crazy looking building so i'm not surprised it attracts silly people.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

waste of money is more accurate

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Urbis is rubbish, but it has really good detailing on the glazing...

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Haha, I noticed these lot on Sunday.

Off topic a little, but about the Mick Rock exhibiton. I went to have a look inside, and got pretty bored to be honest. Almost every single photo is of Lou Reed, David Bowie or the Ramones. And those nasty foreign security guards wouldn't let me use the magic lift either.

:@

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

The lift is the best part - the guides seem like they hate going up there every two minutes mind.

Hmm I don't think I'll go to this then.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

I like that area of the Manchester though. There doesn't seem to be much litter or tramps.

Ooh, Patricide, have you seen the new Burnley buses driving around? They've been refurbished and are now black and red, with tinted windows and a huge witch on the side.

Next time you see one, think to yourself... 'Wrightylew could be on there... wow!'.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Is that where they go? Yeah I've seen them. We still have 30 year old stage coach ones.

'There doesn't seem to be much litter or tramps'

got to love Oldham Street

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Oooh! Have you ever seen (on the arndale centre street thing) a little jacket potato stall called: 'What-a-Potato!'?

The Sun. We love it.

Does anyone find it strange how there's 2 HMV's within about... 80m?

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Hmm yeah - the arndale was on the news last night because it's had a Trafford Centre style makeover. Bill Bryson called the old one the ugliest building in Britain.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

what-a-potato is pretty good and a lot cheaper than the spud-u-like in the arndale food court.

i've seen them buses. the 'witch trail' ones that look dead posh and are probably really expensive to ride on. i either get the train to my humble abode in salford or walk.

the two hmv thing is a bit odd. the one closest to cross street (i think) is a lot better and has two floors.

oldham street is ace. it has the mint lounge, night and day, the dry bar, vinyl exchange, piccadilly records, a geeky comic book shop, the 'oxfam emporium' AND an everything for a pound shop. what more could you ask for?

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

I enjoy what-a-potato. As well as the 'five froots for a pound' stall on Oxford Road. Oldham Street is mint yes.

All my friends have gone home/are sick this weekend so I will go and see the Mick Wall doofer and report back again. Pictures of Iggy and the Ramones = good.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

The goth kids have had to move since they put that fountain in Picadilly Gardens.

I quite like Urbis.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

scenesters are the ones who just do whatevers trendy. they were probably into nu-metal a few years ago. they're the ones with jet black straightened hair, tight ass girls jeans and whatever else. emo kids are the ones with thick rimmed glasses, sweaters and all that. emo kids don't listen to funeral for a friend, my chemical romance etc...

this guy

i like this guy. hes not as stupid as a lot of DiSers these days.

in fact

contrary to what is suggested by that message, hes not stupid at all. hes lovely.

further

by that message, i meant my message. obviously.

oh dear, this is a mess.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

I quite like it too, in that it's something nice to walk past on my way to work at Selfridges.

Get a job, youths!

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

its seven froots for a paund. bargain.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

Seven. I knew that. It would be better if it was paund.

Unless you enjoy 50000000 pictures of Lou Reed and Dave Bowie I don't think the Mick Rock thing is worth your £3.50. There isn't much there really.

Re: EMO collective outside Urbis in Manchester

I said five froots and called Mick Rock Mick Wall up there^. Must have been more drunk than I thought :(
