Re: Elliott Smith

Damn.

Thats right. I'm gonna play Basement...

Re: Elliott Smith

I was disappointed by Basement... at first listen.
But after a few more listens, i'm beginning to think it might be his best since the first 3...

Re: Elliott Smith

I have just bought this album last week

Waltz 2 is breathtaking
Baby Britain - I love the beat on it - it sounds so chirpy and yet the lyrics are utterly depressing
Sweet Adeline - quite like that

With Smith I think you can pick and mix tracks - I'd like to see what was included on a best of...

Shame he went too soon. 34 is so young.

Re: Elliott Smith

I got basement first - I suppose Pretty Ugly Before is my favourite track of that - probably better than anything on the later part of XO

Re: Elliott Smith

I couldn't do a best of.

I love every single album.

Re: Elliott Smith

But Fond Farewell is the saddest song ever.
Especially given the context.
I miss Elliott, even tho I never met him.
Rest in peace.

p.s. anyone got the thumbsucker soundtrack yet?

Re: Elliott Smith

whats Thumbsucker?

In other Elliott news, apparently the second half of Basement has been recently put up on Sweet Adeline to download...

Re: Elliott Smith

Its the soundtrack he started.
Polyphonic Spree finished it.
Some samples on VH1's site of all places HERE

Re: Elliott Smith

From AMAZON

Thumbsucker is the directorial debut of Mike Mills, adapted from the novel by Walter Kirn and stars Tilda Swinton, Vincent D’Onofrio, Keanu Reeves, Benjamin Bratt, Kelli Garner and Vince Vaughn.
Justin Cobb (newcomer Lou Pucci) still sucks his thumb at 17. We soon discover through hypnosis therapy that his thumbsucking is in fact only a symptom of a deep-seated fear and once that’s gone Justin spirals into manic behaviour, is diagnosed with ADHD and put on Ritalin, which becomes a substitute for his thumb. When the high of the prescription drugs and a newfound success at school crash, Justin turns to pot and sex to replace his thumb…
The score to Thumbsucker was written by The Polyphonic Spree’s Tim DeLaughter and recorded with members of the band. The Polyphonic Spree is like no other group, their music is happy and uplifting and manages to make the audience feel as involved with the music as the band members. With over 20 members, a critically acclaimed live performance and a debut album that has sold over 90,000 units in the UK, Polyphonic Spree are a force to be reckoned with. The soundtrack contains an exclusive new song from The Polyphonic Spree, "Move Away And Shine" and three songs from Elliot Smith, one of which ("Thirteen") is previously unreleased and was chosen by Elliot for inclusion in the movie.

Re: Elliott Smith

I'll sound like a pussy for saying this, but I remember the moment he died really well. I was in Virgin Megastore and didn't realise and they played Waltz 2 and announced it and I started crying.........he was so amazing and such a cool guy.

Re: Elliott Smith

I'll listen to Basement and Either/Or, and maybe I'll buy one of his other albums, I definitely don't have enough of them. He was amazing.

A best of would be interesting though, while I love both the albums I have neither of them are perfect, and 20 of his best songs in a row would just be stunning.

Favourite Smith songs? King's Crossing, Needle In The Hay, Angeles and Between The Bars for me.

Re: Elliott Smith

Yeah, Angeles and Between The Bars for me too.

Re: Elliott Smith

I only have Basement, but King's Crossing is wonderful. The scattershot, ranting lyrics are genius..

Re: Elliott Smith

everyone should listen to the Fix Is In by Heatmiser. This is one of Elliott Smith's best songs, actually just buy Mic City Sons.

Re: Elliott Smith

You're absolutely right...

Re: Elliott Smith

First album I got was Roman Candle which I can't seem to find. Will listen to Either/Or instead.

Re: Elliott Smith

roman candle is so great !

You'll have to buy it again...

Re: Elliott Smith

i've got a link up on my blog to where you can get the 22 just leaked demos that have been dubbed Basement 2. link at http://jamiesrunoutgroove.blogspot.com

is such a shame. there's not really anyone that can match him is there?

Re: Elliott Smith

Bill Ricchini is good...

Re: Elliott Smith

I remember hearing Needle In The Hay on the Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack and being totally blown away by it. I've only got From A Basement... since but I will get the others soon. Coast to Coast is stunning.
