i've shied away from this here weblogging following unpleasent experiences with similar thingimmies, but i figure using this as a record/cd buying/acquiring diary would be useful in tracking my spending and suchlike. also: if any of my legions of DiS fans (teehee) actually read this, and desperately want copies of the records (well, cds) with 2 second gaps between the songs, and have something to offer me in return (also most likely avec gaps), then personal messagery is clearly in order.
so: starting from yesterday:
The Evens' album arrived in the post.
£8 all in from
Play. initial listenings suggest that its very good, if maybe a little simpistic. and amy's drums are incredible. basic, but they make a full backing sound at points - just the drums and a little reverb making great vocal accompaniment. i imagine this is what scout nibblet is like.
and then i went to the record store (
Cob Records Bangor) and bought the new
Queens of the Stone Age album (Lullabies to Paralyse) in the ddddelux packaging with dvd etc for
£15, which is a bit steep, but i love em. i dont, however, love this album. it sounds for the most part like a joke. it doesnt
seem to rock so proficiently, and the vocals seem particularly lazy. that said, i didnt dig the first album when i first got it, and now its magnificence is beyond obvious.
whilst there i also picked up a second hand copy of
why?'s Early Whitney EP for
£5.
Darla has been one of my favourite songs in the world for ages, and the ep is very strong.
today the postman was especially generous and brought me two packages.
a
Fugazi double cd live album (from 1999 in Kilkenny, Ireland) that i ordered from
joe lally and the fugazi live series. havent listened yet, but for about
£6.50 (thankyou british economy) and a few hours of the best live band in the world, it really can't be too bad. it had a handwritten note and envelope, but not from joe lally, which would have made me overexcited.
and a demo from
Jeremy Warmsley (
y'see?) cos he's asked me to try and sort him out a gig in bangor. i havent heard it yet, but he is good live, so sortage shouldnt be problematic. and it was
free (for me at least), so thats a brucey.
