i went to the first show on the tour

and i'd never thought i'd say that about Mogwai - me! - esp live. i was left scarily unmoved, and the venue was supposed to have had a brand new PA & all.....But then, the new record is a pile of unremorselessly *nice*, empty hollow noise that snoozes through like its on autopilot, the only thing vaguely different and ear-catching are the Cure guitar styles of "Skeletons...".

And like Lapsus didst say so forcefully and rightfully t'other week - if the best thing you can force yourself to say about a record is that it's simply "..........*nice*", in a wholesomely bland and inoffensive manner (and god, look at the fucking LP title too..) then oh jesus christ............

and if theres people who think the fucking Frames are the best thing Ireland still has to offer, let alone just in the past 6 months, they ought to be put down. i fear what The 4 Of Us are like if they can be referred to in the same breath. are the hoards of exciting dublin acts/bands destined to never be heard or vaguely known the other side of the irish sea at the greater level they deserve, under the weight of frames/jj72/thrills slurry? sigh.....

and this whole "godspeed/mogwai/Real Music [blech..] are-better-than/will-come-to-save-us from Justin/etc" bullshit that crops up alarmingly here each time i scour the board - shove yr assumed superiority up yr ass. sorry but been rankling me for a bit, and always seems to rankle when i read this board especially. even the weirdest beat makers from the alternative scene worldwide are putting their hands up in recognition to Timbaland's beats & tracks, truly doffing their caps to him. [[see Albarn's Mali Music project too - i'd just rather listen to the opinion of someone i respect, who knows his onions on the subject, eg DJ Rupture, than poor press hacks that like to think they do]]. "Cry me a river" is worth a million of whatever dozy shit mogwai snooze through on their new record. If you don't think so, for some petty reason, stay here & go and re-read the non-Adam-Anon ATP review, i'm sure you'll feel all comfortable and reassured once more then..................i felt nauseaous personally once i'd got to the line about stuart braithwaite coming to save us next year. but hey that may just be me...

awesome LPs so far - Blood Bros, Lightning Bolt, Dizzee Rascal (well its just weeks now, & it so will be.......), Chris Clark ep, Dirty 3, MAtt Elliot, Four Tet, Soundmurderer, asa-chang & jung ray [this yr?..], Black Dice, DJ Scud!!!.....and grandaddy's once i hear it and if it's up to friends' reccommendations & better than The Sophtware Zzzz..
