Allow us to introduce Smoosh...
Two sisters, both of whom are under the age of 16. Two sisters whose effortlessly joyous debut 'She Like Electric' is one of this writer's albums of the year. A pair who have just come off tour with The Go! Team in the US and have also played with Sleater-Kinney, Cat Power and Death Cab for Cutie. Yes, they are still under 16.
The pair are travelling to the UK later this month to support the official British release of their debut record and to play a number of dates. "Not to be missed" doesn't cover the half of it.
November
28 London Cargo
more to be announced after the weekend...
'finally' ?
(haw) where will they be able to play?!? duntchya have to be 18+ to play in most live music venues in the UK? do they sound like pain?
FINALLY
yes. yes. yes.
i love smoosh.
years
"Allow us to introduce Smoosh": Is this article from a year or so ago?
'She Like Electric' is one of this writer's albums of the year"; the year would be 2004 (last year) when the album was released.
really?
WELL I LIVE IN THE UK WHERE THE ALBUM WAS FUCKING RELEASED ON MONDAY.
I've had it
For a couple of months, but we have to work with the fact they're only now beginning a proper press assault on the UK, so we have to 'introduce' them.
I stand by my UK release comment though.
dilemma...
it's difficult to say 'this sounds interesting' without coming off as some kind of perv.
but...this sounds interesting.
*pervo laugh*
don't you think
it would be kind of creepy going to watch a couple of pre-pubescent girls play music?
Music
Weirdo. Just enjoy the music.
i don't think
i could without images of being violated in prison flashing through my mind.
Technicalities
Music business-speak technicalities. The CD has been available in UK shops and mail-order outlets at non-import prices for months and months.
What...
...do they sound like?
hmm
a dead lo-fi, less ferocious version of Sleater Kinney perhaps..The album is beyond ace.
they had
better play leeds. then i'll be happy. unless they play the same day as pelican. then i'l be unhappy.
all i can say is:
hmm.
I'm listening to them right now
They are amazing. The one on the left's pretty strange looking.
does that
mean you find the other one attractive?
No

Woops
That was supposed to leave the bottom bit blank... seeing as html's disabled or whatever...erm...
Look! Marcofella's set himself on fire!
*can be seen running into distance*
Under 16?
By some considerable disatnce, surely. Aren't they both less than (or equal to) 13 or something?
Smoosh
Asya is thirteen, twelve when the LP was recorded; Chloe is eleven, ten when the LP was recorded
Hang on...
...is this that neo-Nazi-promoting Aryan pair? Or am I confusing them with some other young blonde duo?
...
I thought that too. The Nazi ones are called Prussian Blue.
Smoosh
arn't nazi in any way, got she like electric in the states last year, some good tunes, I think the death cab for cutie drummer tought them and got them gigs, cat power gave them an opening slot too.
LMAO
The idea of a pair of nazi children in a band really amuses me. AND... its true!
Grr
I've never actually bashed a band (ever), and I'm honest when I say that. But I must get my opinion out! I live in Seattle, and in October 2004 I saw Smoosh open for the Blood Brothers, which was my first introduction to them. I must say, they play the worst music I've ever heard in my entire life. OH GOD! I mean, honestly. It's cute that they're little tiny girls, but what happens when they're twenty and still making music that makes me want to saw my ears off??
*jumps and dances*
Yay for Smoosh!
what?
Who do they sound like?
SOmeone like Hilary Duff comes to mind when looking at the photos, but they're not as pretty or marketable, so they must be getting by on talent or something.
.
they're cutesy indie rock with just keyboard and drums.
think scout niblett if she'd grown up in a convent and got given a casio keyboard on her 13th birthday.
they're playing glasgow!
wooooooo
according to their website:
glasgow Nov. 26th
now, the chances of me finding someone to come see them who doesn't think i'm a weird pervert ....
