It would be so easy to take the scenester route and dismiss this band purely because of their mainstream popularity. I have tried to dig deeper, seeing their live performance and giving their album several listens. But without trying to sound too predictable, I cannot help but criticise The Kaiser Chiefs.
The main problem with this track, the fourth single (or eleventh if you count re-releases) from their debut album, is that it's depressingly average. It's not bad in essence, but it has nothing to hook you and make you want to actively listen to it.
Originality is also a moot point. Comparisons between Blur and the Kaiser Chiefs are rife and with good reason. Burn this onto a CD with a couple of pre-Malaysian nose flute Blur tracks and it would be hard to spot the odd one out. A little influence can be a good thing, but when you wear it so clearly on your brooch and don't take it in any new directions it's very easy to become stuck in a rut, and despite massive album sales this is what has happened to the Kaiser Chiefs.
So unfortunately I am going to have to play Mogwai to Ricky Wilson's Blur and say 'Kaiser Chiefs: Are Shit'.
Hearing this song recently
... actually reminded me of why I liked this band in the first place. I think it's probably the best song on the album. However, due to the ridiculous amount of exposure they've had, I'm completely sick of them. I haven't listened to the album in months, and I'm not likely to in the foreseeable future. If I hear Every Day I Love You Less and Less just once more, I'm going to stab someone...
Spot on
If this song were on The Great Escape it would sit perfectly comfortably
Painfully dull. And they look physically ruined in the video from the year they've had
I think...
this is one of the best songs on the album, and definitely one of the reasons why the Kaisers got signed in the first place.
Granted, they've released too many singles from 'Employment', but this was actually meant to be the follow-up to 'I Predict...' first time round until alleged record company interference, so don't be too harsh on the band for that (if true).
As for JD, I know why he hates the Kaisers - something to do with the Rescue Rooms so a little birdie tells me!
for me
it's definitely their best track.
It should have been a single much earlier.
these accusations
are unfounded. and to be fair i havent just started disliking them, when they played last year on same night as Bloc Party i thought they were poor.
i dont think its a bad song, just that its a terribly average song, and at the time there are some quality singles coming out, so i think its unfair to give it more than 2/5, 4/10 or however its graded now.
tho why im arguing with a Forest fan on the subject of quality i dont know :)

Now now
we're the toast of everyone from Macclesfield and Scunthorpe to Weymouth and Woking at the minute, so in terms of uniting the four corners of this land we've done a pretty grand job over the last couple of months!
domgourlay
you say that theyve released too many singles from the album. this is only the 4th and compared to many other bands that the normal amount and they have said that this is the last one to be released from the album. they did have two re-releases tho.
anyway i love them :D
So yeah
4 singles plus 2 re-release equals 6 singles, which is taking the piss. Even if you don't include the original limited Oh My God, 5 singles is still stretching it.
Hell_child
I'm standing up for them here!
Still can't defend the re-releases though mate or the fact that some of their early b-sides resurfaced on the album
yawn
I'm getting really pissed off seeing the Kaiser chiefs every time you put a fuckin music channel on. MTV2 will have a Kaiser chiefs verses the Kaiser Chiefs hour soon.
??
if you are so tired of them, why have you read this though? you think you'd avoid them when possible.
The Cribs
the cribs version of this song is so much better! i dont know if its the original or not though, could someone please tell me if it is? the first time i heard it i thought it sounded like a cover of blur or whatever! i agree kaiser chiefs are REALLY overplayed!
