Young knives - The decision

I can't really xplain why, because it's just a fun pop song, but this makes me happy sad, angry, lovestruck, lovelorn, determined, joyous, emo and totally and utterly liberated without really changing it's tone at all.

What does it for you?

hmm

manics - of walking abortion
amazing experience really. intense.

bob dylan - hurricane. amazing. AMAZING.

cloud room

hey now now by the cloud rooom

not really sure what it is.

Too

much to choose from but off the top of my head TV On The Radio's Staring At The Sun is a great song for when you're feeling incredibly happy, really pissed off or just plain defiant.

Also Buck 65 - Square 1/ Phil
Four Tet - She Moves She

i saw

a band the other night who managed to be:
sad
dancable
and
shit

all at the same time, we sort of enjoyed them, but there was something really not right about them

I'd say

Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio. Beautiful, uplifting, sad and nostalgic. If I had to be a voice, I'd want to be Mark Kozelek's.

i would say

My Way by Frank Sinatra stirs up many different emotions when i listen to it, bloody great song, i think i'll listen to it now in fact

for me

the Catchers - beauty n°3
Low - words

have to agree with lyle

words is a beautiful low song. however, if i only had one choice i'd go with "(that's how you sing) amazing grace".

autmun almanac

by the kinks.
its like vague and silly
and then it just goes from a major to a mnor and its the actual saddest thing EVAH.

where is my mind?

by the Pixies. makes me think of so many people and feelings.

shorley wall

by ooberman and don't i hold you by wheat.
still get the same tingles when i hear either, and remember the first time i heard them.
shorley wall gives me a tight chest, which is feels better than it sounds.

whoops, too much typing today...

"which feels better"

HYPERBALLAD

BY bjork

i've fell in love with this song on about twenty seperate occasions. i know i will always come back to it but am uberexcited each time it happens

Common People

by Pulp- it's like you can laugh, hate, cry and love AND dance to the whole thing- there are so many emotional 'components' to it. it can make you feel like the biggest turd and the greatest popstar within seconds.

.

Monomen - Divide Divide. Post punk goodness.
GY!BE - Moya
Patrick Wolf - To The Lighthouse

Ahem

Sorry to spoil the mood here, but don't ou think you're going a bit over board there?

'happy, sad, angry, lovestruck, lovelorn, determined, joyous, emo and totally liberated...'

COME ON!!!

You saying

that no song does that to you?

In addition to my semi-conscious attempt at replying to this thread last night, I would like to add:

Patrick Wolf - Paris
Jimmy Eat World - Work
Brand New - The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows (actually pretty much all of Deja Entendu does it for me)
Yo La Tengo - Damage

for me

Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Mogwai - Like Herod
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Nomadic Revery (All Around)
Palace - New Partner
Sigur Ros - Ny Batteri
...Trail of Dead - Mistakes and Regrets
Patrick Wolf - Bloodbeat
Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space

oh yes

and Countdown by Pulp - it makes me go cold, yet also makes me excited and want to dance.

i get that

about pulp's 'this is hardcore'. the most incredible creepy song i can think of.

.......

comfortably numb - pink floyd
uh... it makes me feel confused mostly, and i just come up with tons of different theories about what its actually about..

because the night - natalie merchant
makes me almost brainwashed.. sadish? excited, full of love, that adrenalin feeling almost.. slightly angry.

throw your arms around me - eddie vedder
very sad and miserable.. happy aswell? content.

phantasmagoria in two - tim buckley
very sad.. awed. i get a sort of eerie feeling..

The last episode of six feet under made me cry.

Rollercoaster - Red House Painters

It's a heartbreaker, but it isn't sad, as such.

A day in the life..

Beatles

...

mercury rev - holes. always reminds me of a certain someone and now it reminds me of when I saw them in Barcelona at Primavera this year and met a lovely spanish girl and she said the same thing.

Mogwai - Huunted by a freak, reminds me of when peel died as Mary Anne Hobbes played that clip of him phoning up from south america asking how he can get hold of some local dance music and then it faded into hunted by a freak. beautiful.

and all of Experimental Jet Set and no star reminds me of my first ever girlfriend.....hmmm love a bit of monday evening melancholy..

david bowie

quicksand

i hate

mercury rev, because they annoy me horribly; that's a great song though.

I like this thread

'Radiohead - Let Down' - used to do this to me all the time, it still does.

And also: 'DJ Shadow - Mutual Slump' - I can't even put my finger on why.

Here's one

Winter by Tori Amos makes me feel happy/sad/melancholy/scared etc etc

there's a song from the film the mission

not the one with the oboe but one of a choir that is wonderful

carole king

'it's too late': a kind song about breaking up, and hope, and hopelessness, which seems to wear a smile throughout. it's certainly not yr average maudlin break-up song.

also cursive's 'staying alive', which goes from being dark and small and ambiguous and haunting, to a massive, symphonic declaration of hope and fearlessness and pride in one's own existence... and fountains of wayne's 'troubled times', because for me it's sad and nostalgic and wistful, but also makes me feel quite warm and lovely. a proper teenage hormone song, without being silly or overblown.
