For one moment, put away those prejudices you may have against Messier Doherty. Go on, away with them. Done? Right. Oh, of course, don't forget where you put those prejudices. Chances are, they'll be more valid at the end of this review.
Well then, Pete got round to completing his new record. He had me fooled! Because this is a completely half-baked, half-finished and half-arsed attempt at a "record". But really, what were you expecting?
Poor production, mundane lyrics and a voice that could make Joe Pasquale shriek, "Shut the bloody hell up!" will lead, if there's any justice on this earth, to the final nail in the coffin of Doherty's music career. They've even managed to butcher, "Kilamanjiro", a single that actually showed promise.
And for an album with so many of the trademarks of the punk genre, where the hell is the "punk"? And no, "Fuck Forever" is still not punk no matter how many music television channels have to pixellate his mouth.
Why not REALLY stand against something Pete, eh? Why not sing for the youth of today? WHY NOT sing against the injustices of this world like the punk Gods of yesteryear? Oh forget it, sing a song about your sodding Albion.
So, get those prejudices back out, scream down any 'Shambles fan protesting their musical integrity and hope that this is the final album from this mess of a band and we can end this sorry chapter entitled "Pete Doherty".
what surprised me
the NME only gave it a 7. I thought they were gonna go for a full on 10/10. (PS, I dont buy it, its just sometimes at the library at my collage). Yes, Babyshambles are crap and I agreew ith every word you said in that review.
why trying to justify
that you read the NME ?
I'm not sure this review is fair but can anyone be fair about Doherty, after all what was said about him ( and not about his music ).
Still i find quite fun that songs like 'kilaamnjiro' or 'fuck forever' which sounds like the Pogues on crack made it to the top10...
Hmmmm...
I've been in two minds whether to buy this record when it comes out, but by the sounds of it, I'll be better off investing in one of the dozens of other albums that I want. Thanks Panic, you've performed a public service ;-D
it dont sound like the pogues on crack
it sounds like eagle eye cherry with crap production
Bbyshambles
When they played at the Underground, STOKE it was diabolically-fundamentally crap. Dont ever go to a Babyshambles gig,i didnt like it choose Libertines instead. lyle is a cock, its true
Boring review
Yawn...oh Pete Doherty, what a waster, this is a crap record, blah blah blah.
Did you even listen to it?
Thankfully I live in the States and aren't subjected to the tabloid stories Pete is so known for recently.
Did see The Libertines live in New York and thought they rocked.
This is a departure from the Libertines, not like them at all, but the amazing thing is how Pete has found a different voice which is as good.
Out of the 16 songs, 13 are good or great. That's about 95% percentile of any rock album.
Some bummer songs would be the rasta song and 2 other forgettable tunes, but everything else is really good.
So the jackass that posted that the album sounds "half done", I would say he's "half dumb" but that would be giving him too much credit.
how about listening to the album before reviewing it
You always know when a reviewer hasn't even listened to the album when they can only talk about the singles released. Awful review.
normally
i wouldn't give someone like you the time of day after you gave this album 9/10 but here goes:
i have listened to this album in full, HENCE the terrible review and rating i gave it! it IS a terrible album and i was not about to go through every song and tell the reader what was wrong with it; it is simply not my style.
right. i hope that satisfies you.
Also
You might want to consider not giving him the time of day on account of the fact that - at least his profile suggests - he signed up just to praise Babyshambles. Such tactics are cynical street teamer spin doctoring, and I think it's both shameful and disgraceful.
.
I've only reviewed Babyshambles album so far cause I was looking to see what people were saying about the album and came across that review where it was obvious he/she hadn't listened to the album, so just added my two cents. And babyshambles don't need "street teamer spin doctoring" as the majority of broadsheet, tabloid and music website reviews have been excellant for the album with many calling it a classic.
I will review other albums but at the minute there just aren't many recently released albums to my taste. Whenever the strokes album gets released/leaked I'll review it.
Ok
Yeah yeah yeah yeah whatever. But seriously, I'll need convincing that anyone calling this 'album' a classic is quite possibly on hallucinogenic drugs.
err
I meant "isn't quite possibly on..." rather than is.
A Classic?
So, 'the majority of broadsheet, tabloid and music website reviews have been excellent for the album with many calling it a classic', huh? No, you're talking out your arse, you fanboy shit. Take a look:

Is the version of Killamangiro the same as the single version, or did they redo it with Mick Jones 'producing'?
I haven't heard the album, don't intend to, but for what it's worth, any album containing a first single where the producer couldn't even be arsed to use a microphone on the acoustic guitar can't be that much cop. I mean, shambolic stuff can work- see Syd Barretts solo recordings. The difference between this and that (ASIDE from the fact Syd Barrett could and did write great songs, and Pete D. never could, even with the Libertines) is that everyone else in the studio was a professional, doing their best to capture the best Barrett performance. From the sounds of the B.S record, no one was doing anything other than contriving a vibe of 'don't care if it sounds shit'....bad bad bad.
Thinking this is shit is nothing to do with tabloid hype. The plain and simple fact is that this music is utter shit, recorded badly. It may have a glimmer of originality for people whose record collections don't stretch beyond Rod fucking stewart and Celine Dion.......
"The B.S. Record"
Says it all.
