Kathy Cash, daughter of the late Johnny Cash, walked out of a screening of the forthcoming bio-pic Walk The Line claiming that it portrayed her mother in a less-than-favourable light.

Kathy, whose mother Vivian Liberto Distin was married to Cash for 13 years, said:

"My mom was basically a nonentity in the entire film except for the mad little psycho who hated his career."

Kathy claims such a representation is far from the truth, telling the BBC that she supported Cash's career, until his drug habits became too much.

The film, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon as Johnny and June Carter-Cash respectively, is released in February. Ginnifer Goodwin plays Vivian, while Kathy is played by child actor Kerris Dorsey. Johnny Cash died of cancer in 2003.

I am

soooo looking forward to this film.

sounds

interesting...

trailer looks good

Phoenix really looks like he can pull off a good Cash.

On the other hand...

I thought that Vivian Cash was portrayed in a very sympathetic way- I really felt for her character and kept wondering how much she could take- Johnny was deliberately pushing her out of his life and you really felt for her character. Ginnifer Goodwin played her as a woman trapped by circumstance, with an abusive husband- not necessarily physically but definitely emotionally.

More information on Johny Cash 1ST wife

I feel that Johnny Cash's first wife's role in the movie Walk The Line was not really explained well. When I recently watched the movie I felt that more explaining needed to be done. I was disappointed when I could not find more information on this lady even in the internet. I hope that the next bio film that I see has more explanation about it's main characters. It is not necessary to add time to a movie, its just the way the scenes were built, it could have been better. I really feel that she was one of the main characters. First wife is a big role to play.
