having produced or at least had a hand in recording 3 of my all time favourite albums and being in the VU this wont change my opinion of the programme or get me to watch.
Are you really that bothered by the presentation? for fucks sake, The guy just has a bit of a laugh playing along, since when did music become so sacred that you can't actually have a bit of fun with it.
Anyhow, I like the fact that there is a programme which puts Robbie Williams on the same stage as Vashti Bunyan.
It's the fact that he stumbles around like your uncle on too much stella and intoduces bands with the word 'marvellous'. And assumes that everyone likes Boogie Woogie too.
Its not a program for indie obsessives. Its not intended for students that can't stand anything that's related to old fashioned rock n roll. Its generally for people who aren't into the stuff we hear all the time on the radio.
but it's completely acceptable. He's awkward, unlikable and is vocally fawning towards guests but his eyes tend to give away his derision in most cases. All those things are not good but somehow I still think it works really well. I think I'd always prefer some bumbling fool to a super cool polished presenter.
the boogie-woogie-ing over the top of everything annoys me, but the format of the show still pisses on almost every other remotely music-orientated form of televisual entertainment out there. the one exception is popworld.
i have no problems with the content of the show. it's great that he's bringing world music to arctic monkeys fans and vice versa.
but he's such a cock.
they have some respectable bands and musicians on there most weeks. jools is a good pianist. if you don't like it, don't watch it, don't complain. if you've never seen a band that you like on there its probably because they're shit and don't deserve to be there. so accept it
thinking the same thing.
2 lots of Weller, 2 lots of Santana, a Sheryl Crow interview and "song" (in the loosest sense of the word) and still no Sigur Ros.
Come on JH, sort it.
This thread went dead. Did you all go to clean yourselves up after Sigur Ros?
Next week's sounds like a classic. Sean Paul AND Texas, Ho-ly FUNK! Hope they team-up, like when Texas did a duet with the Wu Tang Clan at the Brit Awards.
They played well. Shame it was only 2 songs though.
The mixing for Sigur Rós was terrible though- drumming didn't sound right, at points Jonsi sounded quieter than everyone singing, the brass band were louder than Amina when they were singing. They should have kept them lower. Also the brass was a bit too overwhelming in comparison to everything else. Just a poor mix.
Yet, that vile Santana's sound wasn't bad at all.
those who were at the actual performance say it was amazing and way better than how it sounded on the TV & that SR got done by. They really are amazing at performing/live.
to be fair they played two songs, and med bloenasir was pretty amazing live, but i was expecting another track. im sure santana didnt need to play those first two tracks. and im sure paul weller only needed two.
I thought it was alright. Sigur Ros and that last Santana song were good. As for Jools, a friend of a friend tells me there's enough talcum powder in his changing room to kill a horse.
i have never once been impressed with a Later... no matter who's on, because they'll share TV time with a bunch of other really shit bands and a piggish aging oaf with terrible taste in music. presumably.
and there are often some ace solo/acoustic pieces on - son of dave most recently. But been a coupla of goodies from James Dean Bradfield and Graham Coxon.
"if you don't like it, don't watch it"
but its the only non mainstream live music show on tv.
surely we're allowed to be pissed off that he adds nothing of any worth to the program, but is irritating...
and also, surely if they got rid of the whole "jools holland" element, they could just make the show go around the entire year? wy the fuck is it in seasons?
I would, but I won't be in..
... I still hate Jools Holland, the man, though.
it's not "I hate Jools"
ok, sometimes it is, but mainly it's "i hate the formulaic bands that appear each week".
paul weller and SIGUR ROS (!!!) are on as well. so yes, everyone should tune in.
jools is a ok but his guests are whack
What was all that KT Tunstall crap about last week on Jools? 4 bullshit songs and we also got 3 from that cunt Robbie.
Perhaps I will bin off Explosions In The Sky tonight and sit and watch great contempory arteeests like Paul Weller instead?
Then again. Perhaps not.
sigur ros...
..are on it tonight too yeah?
Despite
having produced or at least had a hand in recording 3 of my all time favourite albums and being in the VU this wont change my opinion of the programme or get me to watch.
I like Jools Holland
because I like the jazz and blues he does. He's a brilliant pianist.
Why do people hate him? Is it because he is a bit... taken back, by people like Acoustic Ladyland etc.?
I can't put my finger on it...
... he just has a certain annoying quality about him. He's obviously talented, but as a presented he pisses me off.
I admit
His posture and face and accent are all quite paedophilic and creepy, but I don't get the hatred.
what
really old man white jazz and blues?
Your comments
are purposely immature and you're trying to make me angry. You're shit.
but seriously.
he boogie-woogies over most of the songs like he just knows what will make their songs better.
he comes off as so arrogant.
Jools

It's the pissed attittude...
It's the fact that he stumbles around like your uncle on too much stella and intoduces bands with the word 'marvellous'. And assumes that everyone likes Boogie Woogie too.
Well they should
I love hearing / playing it.
Its not a program for indie obsessives. Its not intended for students that can't stand anything that's related to old fashioned rock n roll. Its generally for people who aren't into the stuff we hear all the time on the radio.
great idea
My uncle after a couple of cans of stella would make a fucking top presenter.
he's a bit of a dick
but it's completely acceptable. He's awkward, unlikable and is vocally fawning towards guests but his eyes tend to give away his derision in most cases. All those things are not good but somehow I still think it works really well. I think I'd always prefer some bumbling fool to a super cool polished presenter.
totally
Drunken bumbling fool of an uncle. Totally unfunny and cringworthy He's great. He is a character and he loves music.
sp
*cringeworthy*
next.....
youll be knocking the hootanany. thats fantastic.
as i see it jools holland is harmless like brown shoes, you know they are there, you just learn to ignore them.
the
hootenanny is hideous.
he
strikes me as more of a port man than stella.
the boogie-woogie-ing over the top of everything annoys me, but the format of the show still pisses on almost every other remotely music-orientated form of televisual entertainment out there. the one exception is popworld.
uh
i have no problems with the content of the show. it's great that he's bringing world music to arctic monkeys fans and vice versa.
but he's such a cock.
actually
he doesn't personally pick the guests - a fact I was surprised to learn recently
He looks like a toad
And called the Arcade Fire the Arcade Power. That makes him a wee bit of a tool. Or a toadstool, if you will.
Ha ha ha!
The Arcade Power, I remember that! It's a good name though ;-D
Jools Holland isn't
A loud braindead screaming grinning badly-dressed whore; if you want that sort of thing watch TOTP, CD UK etc.
No. No he isn't.
But it would be quite funny if he was.
I think Later... would be much better served by a presenter of the calibre of Noel Edmonds.
hmmm
tidybeard versus jools.
noel would probably bully one of the bands each week into subjecting themselves to the gunge tank.
actually that'd be great.
its a good show
they have some respectable bands and musicians on there most weeks. jools is a good pianist. if you don't like it, don't watch it, don't complain. if you've never seen a band that you like on there its probably because they're shit and don't deserve to be there. so accept it
he did'nt introduce the guests at the beginning of the programme
and where's Sigur Ros? 25 minutes and they haven't even been mentioned yet.
They were mentioned quickly...
And I don't know how much more Santana I can take...
who's this peckerhead
who's singing with santana? with the long hair...?
Was....
thinking the same thing.
2 lots of Weller, 2 lots of Santana, a Sheryl Crow interview and "song" (in the loosest sense of the word) and still no Sigur Ros.
Come on JH, sort it.
WAS PAUL WELLER
singing about 'Sanwiches' just a moment ago?
WOW
This thread went dead. Did you all go to clean yourselves up after Sigur Ros?
Next week's sounds like a classic. Sean Paul AND Texas, Ho-ly FUNK! Hope they team-up, like when Texas did a duet with the Wu Tang Clan at the Brit Awards.
Texas dida duet with Wu Tang?
when? where? what song? was it any good? where can i hear it? is this too many questions?
"Duet"
It was basically Texas singing Say What You Want with string samples in the background and Method Man going "UH! UH! UH! UH!"
It was at the Brit Awards once.
i
switched over and watched the stuff about the avengers instead. GOD i love the avengers.
YEAH!
The Avengers is ace. I'm so glad BBC4 are showing it.
only one Sigur Ros song and
way too much Santana, they even did Black Magic Woman which is years old, one of their best known.
sigur ros
they weren't even as good as i thought theyd be but they still slayed everyone else by such a long way
Sigur Rós
They played well. Shame it was only 2 songs though.
The mixing for Sigur Rós was terrible though- drumming didn't sound right, at points Jonsi sounded quieter than everyone singing, the brass band were louder than Amina when they were singing. re:

what
did they play?
they did
hoppÃpolla and its repise með blóðnasir
with amina on strings and vocals and a brass section which also did vocals
hmm...teh ros
to be fair they played two songs, and med bloenasir was pretty amazing live, but i was expecting another track. im sure santana didnt need to play those first two tracks. and im sure paul weller only needed two.
Twas...
the only highlight in a disappointingly dull show!
if i was
any of the other performers i would have felt too embarassed at my musical inadequecies to play again after sigur ros did their thing ...
you didn't hear it here
I thought it was alright. Sigur Ros and that last Santana song were good. As for Jools, a friend of a friend tells me there's enough talcum powder in his changing room to kill a horse.
Roland Rivron
Why do either Roland Rivron or Hugh Laurie have to get shitfaced at every hootenanny?
...
i have never once been impressed with a Later... no matter who's on, because they'll share TV time with a bunch of other really shit bands and a piggish aging oaf with terrible taste in music. presumably.
that's silly
what about the at the drive-in performance?
and there are often some ace solo/acoustic pieces on - son of dave most recently. But been a coupla of goodies from James Dean Bradfield and Graham Coxon.

bring back
the old grey whistle test !
aren't babyshamble on next weeks show?
alongside Sean Paul.
jules
is ok . a bit of a dipstick but ok
