Continuing the de-centralisation of DiS meet-ups, here's an ace gig happening soon in Birmingham. I've put it on the Social board, as they're unsigned bands, but it will involve lots of FUN. I will be in attendance,(what other reason do you need?!) and hopefully Mr Creakyknees will too.
MoffFest 2005
Saturday 17 December
The Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath, Birmingham, 7pm
A mere £3
Featuring the super-talents of
BURNST (Manchester-based math-rock, one of my favourite live bands EVER)
MOTHERTRUCKER (ace instrumental stoner-metal)
THE HUBBLE CONSTANT (a band of physicists with enthusiasm for Slint and Shellac, amongst others)
also UNA CORDA and CORNISH TIN MINERS, who I know nothing about, but I'm sure will be good.
I'm not going to lie to you here - these are my mates' bands, and I'm shamelessly street teaming. But for anyone from Birmingham, or anyone who fancies a visit for a cheap night out, I promise you a night of drinking, loudness and hilariousness. x
Is it
on the tube?
yes
simply change at Euston, get on the 'Virgin' line. It's in Zone 30.
Ah, yes
put in terms I understand and it all makes sense.
"simply change at Euston, get on the 'Virgin' line. It's in Zone 30."
Toppest comment ever? Well not quite beating random, but it's a good'un.
If...
I wasn't going home on the 18th I may have said yeS!
Goddammit!
I'll be in Kings Heath visiting the in-laws pretty much all week, up to the 15th. Got to go back to work on the 16th, otherwise I'd be there AND be square
NO
Don't go back to work, come to this!
Well
the 16th is go-back-to-work / other-halfs-Christmas-do day, so I really have to come back dahn Sarf. I am dead annoyed though, I would've been there like a shot
boo
right, who else is coming?
I would love to..
but I can't I'm going to Cardiff on 17th!
ok
who else? There are people on here who live in Birmingham, I'm sure. lifeandlime? podge9? I think.
I'm goung to a Carol concert
on that day - and Stoke vs Luton - what a 24hours that will be.
I dont live in Birmingham either
yeah
well that's a rubbish excuse. Do I live in Birmingham? No.
Carol Voderman's doing a concert?
And you're going???
This is a Saturday night.
Who is up for beers in London on this night? It's much easier to get to.
Also, Fabric the night before if anyone is interested.
I said it was Saturday, didn't I?
Yes, it is a Saturday. Stop trying to steal people.
Come on guys!
It's Saturday night in London, who is with me?!
I'm off
back to rainy Essex for a birthday party that weekend, why don't you all come to that?
We can surprise my parents.
Cool!
I'll be there colonel!
I'm with you!
Let's go to Frog again!
Great -claire-
I'm up for that.
So London, Saturday 16th roll call so far:
Me!
-claire-.
Maybe we should just leave it at that?!
It's
the 17th ;)
That's what I meant obviously
The 17th!
I want to go to
Frog instead of going back to Cardiff for te weekend!
no you don't
you want to go to my gig. In Birmingham.
Er... Don't think she does.
You can't polish a turd squizzel.
Don't ask me
what a turd squizzel is though.
What have you
been taking today BG!
Ex-Lax.
BRB!
look you two
stop wrecking my thread, you losers. This IS going to be the best gig ever, and you know it.
Hmm
I am tempted by the Hubble Constant (from both a music and me being an Astrophysicist point of view) but I doubt I'll have the time.
Are you travelling up on the day and coming back again Nicey? Maybe if there's a crowd doing that I'll do it.
I'm going up on the Saturday
and coming back on the Sunday. If a crowd of people want to come, we could probably put them up somewhere.
The Hubble Constant are ace - www.myspace.com/thehubbleconstant and are made even better by the fact that they feature a guitarist whose ACTUAL NAME is Bruce Goodenough.
I'll be beer compliant
post carols - am planning a gig in Birmingham hopefully so I'll have to go sometime
Hmmm
Hmm, I'm not sure: It's almost a ten minute walk to the number 50 bus-stop and then a whole five minutes on the bus due to the lights...and three pounds, that almost the cost of a half pint of beer in London.
LOL?
Can I come?
Only if you bring your mum and sister
natch.
you're not
dissing my family are you? I'll 'ave you if so.
How is that DiSing your family?
Eh? Eh?
And what are you doing on line at this hour? I thought you didn't have inty-net at home?
And no, I wasn't
just thought it would be cool drag Clan Roberts to more gigs...
meh
kings heath? ha, what bus do i get there from the city centre? why can't you have it in centre nice and close to where i live? bloody suburbs.
might actually come to this, despite not really being a DiS-er, since all of my uni friends will have pissed off home that day - term ends on the 16th.. (i have to hang around til the 19th, go to london for the BSS gig, come back on the 20th and then finally go home to hull the same day..)
50
50 - every four or five minutes - one pound and ten pence - exact fare
Smigs
of course you're a DiSer, you're posting on here aren't you? There's not like some badge you have to earn. So yes, come to the gig, it'll be ace. And yes, it's the 50 bus route, same one you'd use to go to the Jug of Ale, just stay on it for another 10 minutes.
i'm not
allowed to post on here because my brother (Smiggs) does and he'll beat me up if he catches me ;)
you're allowed to go to gigs though, right?
because this is going to be the BEST GIG EVER.
I'd like to come to this
but I'd never be able to get anyone to go with me. And going to birmingham on my own would be too scary.
Go with
nice_squirrel!
yeah
yeah
Scary?
Alien, do you mean the travelling to Biringham or the being in Birmingham that would be scary?
yes
i am. especially 'best gigs ever'.
i won't
be there...
hmm
I'm back from university, but I'm not sure I can be bothered! Sell it to me.
I was thinking of going to this
If I can find a mate who will go with me. Whoever Una Corda are they're playing with Pelican at the Medicine Bar on the 21st as well
ooh, are they?
That's a Capsule promoted gig, which suggests they could be good then. All Capsule gigs are great!
Yeah
Well according to the flyer i got the other day they are anyway. Its a capsule xmas party, looks quite good.
I miss Birmingham
:(
bump
this will be the ace-ist.
thank you
for reminding me, I shall be there.
Just so that you will all recognise me, I will wear a black jacket and be drinking a pint.
that should be easy then
I will be small and enthusiastic.
how will
I recognise your enthusiasm, does it manifest itself in external signals?
jumping
and wooping, generally. I also have brown unruly hair.
could you?,
using your enthusiasm, please explain to me what in the blazes, math rock is?
I think
it's literally, 'mathematical rock', so, Maths Rock for the pedants. As in, they have complicated time signatures and rhythmical patterns, and sometimes even work out parts with formulae or graphs. Apparently.
oh....
So is it the rock equivalent of 'experimental jazz' ?
yes
I think it is.
hmmmm
nice
I would be going
cos Mothertrucker and the Hubble chaps are totally rocking, but i have a work christmas thingy.
I might be able to offer some accommodation later if there's anyone wanting to come up but with nowhere to stay.
yay, come!
do you know them? Do I know you?
Mathed rock
I was disappointed to find out what Maths Rock is; I had hoped it would be a combination of rock music and mathematics, two of my favourite things. There are not enough blackboards used in rock music.
^Awesome Post^
Hehehe
well it sort of is
are you going to come, Traynor?
Trademark combine music with graphs and labcoats, they're fun.
Group Theory
Milly Million pointed me in the direction of Trademark. They are fine.
Kings Heath is the new Moseley.
Trademark with helium balloons at Truck.
yes
yes it is. And thanks for the bump.
THIS WEEKEND
ONLY HAPPENS IN BIRMINGHAM.
Nope....
It's all about Leicester, well siting in the pub in Leicester anyway.
then it's oof back home, Woo!
*of.
there are no oaf's back home, well perhaps my dad...
Leicester is
not far from Birmingham. You might as well come, I think.
Hmmmm
I'm poor and get scared by Birmingham, yes they are lame, lame excuses...
It's not in the centre
it's in a nice not scary suburb. And it's £3, goddamit! I'll expect to see you there. x
This gig
was ace. No DiSers came and introduced themselves, but there was someone there I suspected of being Traynor. All the bands were totally amazing, with ace visuals behind them.
If you're interested, visit
www.myspace.com/mothertrucker
and
www.myspace.com/thehubbleconstant
yay!
Sorry I didn't come
but I'm soooo scared by my next barclaycard bill. I've been spending like mad...
I'm glad
you had a good time!
i couldn't be there
obviously...
well
I accept your excuse this time Lyle, the Eurostar doesn't go to Birmingham. It was super-fun though, you all missed out. I went out clubbing afterwards though, which was scary - it was full of 18 year olds with completely ridiculous haircuts and ludicrous clothes all trying to catch the eye of Chris Urbanwicz - I felt old.
Ho is Chris Urbanwicz?
No idea. Did you pull, then, Soph? ;-)
the one
from Editors with the hair. He seems nice actually, he looks a bit awkward at being a celebrity.
And no, I was far too busy doing silly dancing and drinking £1.50 pints of cider to pursue small androgynous boys!
