Dragon's Den

The BBC TV programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dragonsden/

Is it just me who finds this rather compelling viewing, part of it in a car crash sort of way...

  • totally compelling

i love it and hate it.

The arrogance and smugness of the dragons (mega rich folk to the ignorant) and the pathetic kiss assery of the paupers (joe public with average innovations)

Its so representative of the society Labour has crafted with such a divide between the classes.

  • best show on TV

ever? no, prob not but it does have a certain something. I used to like that 'sorry its just not viable, im out' guy, but he's not in it anymore. Rachelle Elnor is a bitch, a failed bitch and i hate her.

    • its so funny

when one of the "dragons" puts in an offer, then Rachael comes along and undercuts it by 5%.
The other week Theo was teasing her, saying "what exactly, apart from your money, can you bring to this deal?" - basically inmplying she is worthless businesswoman.
i reckon she's basically their bitch as it says in the intros at the beginning that the other dragons bought out her failing business.
You've got to love some of the put downs the guys come up with though, even if they are scripted, because its so punishing to these entrepeneurs who've invested their lives nto an idea to be told its the single worst business idea they've heard in their lives, or whatever.
      Good Stuff.

      • hearthbrokenstar

that really is a load of twoddle you spoke about it representing class divide *sigh*

and rachael elnor is in no way at all a "failed bitch"

i like the way doug richards is merciless and quick witted in tearing people apart. theo is a bit too arrogant but then again has reason to be.... and the extremely tall one (sorry his name i cant remember atm)is probably the most genuine one you could work with and trust.

Duncan this series doesn't seem to show much interest i swear he's drunk pretty much all the time...well he looks it anyway...

        • I win £20.

If Duncan parts with no money in this series.

I'm still in there with 3 shows gone!

  • its great

this is an awesome program, some people just make me laugh cos their ideas are so bad! saying that i'm not exactly full of great ideas but then again i'm not asking for 100,000 off someone!

    • That dude with the fold away plates and cups

was diamond, though. I could totally have loved those when I've been camping. Especially as you can unfold them to make cleaning easier.

      • he was...

a complete business prat! ace idea but he was arrogant and totally over valued his company... i thought theo was classic afterwards saying how he was close friends with the head of some outdoor activity chain i think it was.

        • lolz

          i fucking love this programme.

the guy is mates with the head of 'millets', who sell camping/outdoor gear and such like. i used to call it 'mullets' cos i knew someone who worked in it who, errrr, had a mullet. yes.

my best mate used to work at 'red letter days' and confirm that rachael elnor is a silly cow.

still, she's still far richer than i'll ever be.

          bitch.

          • i suggest...

Hello Dragons im looking for £100,000 for the website Drowned In Sound. We will be investing this money into a fucking good night out for ALL users and a good percentage will be used for drinks and such like...the odd band may be hired to come entertain us until the inevitably early morning throbbing in our heads.

You will recieve no percentage equity but Duncan is invited as he looks like a raging alcoholic who wil ldrink us all under the table.

            then repeat....
"go on go on go on go on" until they give into demands.

  • I

    love it.

I liked the Yorkshire guy on the other week... 'Interflush' or something.

But yes, its good viewing. Very compelling.

That presenter is too happy though.

    • is it me...

or does the presenter have one weird eye doesnt seem to look in same direction as other...

      • yes

        he has funny eyes.

        and an odd-shaped head.

        and no personality.

  • yes!

i agree, totally compelling viewing. nothing quite like watching someone mess up their pitch for a flawed product (first guy on last weeks show with that digibox thing, for example), and watching the dragons rip them shreds.

"what is it?!" - funny and utterly humiliating at the same time!

    • I couldn't believe that guy

I assumed he was really ill or something and would collapse but he seemed to genuinely have no ability at all.

The Yorkshire guy was a classic. I think only a Yorkie could have been that interestedly serious about shit, even to colour his product in red, white and blue.

      • no ability and no product

so he had a product that could display different kinds of file/presentations, except all in one box.

so... he had a laptop computer with windows xp on it?

        • Well maybe

I think the product might have been okay, though basing it on XP seemed odd when I would have thought if you're going to remove the user's input from the thing, Linux would make far more sense, unless MS is a partner.

It seemed like the sort of product people with no know-how, no time and too much money buy, which would cover 90% of the suits who do the selling side of the IT business. Probably a stupid product that could be marketed for a lot of money, to be honest.

          • it looked to me

like an amazingly primitive laptop! I did feel for that guy a little bit tho, he clearly had no clue whatsoever.
