OK, let's forget about the Q and NME polls

We all know they're crap/rigged so let's have our very own poll. Here's what I suggest:

List your top 5 albums of the year. It'll be great if you can put them in order so that #1 scores 5 points, #2 scores 4, #3 scores 3 etc. If you cant's/won't put them in order don't worry, they'll all be given three points. Then at the end of the year I'll total up all the points to give us the DiS Forummers Albums of the Year! Feel free to list more than five albums but I'm going to be a facist about this and only the first five will score points. OK, get compiling. For the record my five are:

1. New General Catalogue - Redjetson
2. Illinois - Sufjan Stevens
3. Z - My Morning Jacket
4. All Harm Ends Here - Early Day Miners
5. Wind In the Wires - Patrick Wolf

1. Funeral - Arcade Fire
2. The Meadowlands - The Wrens
3. Leaders of the Free World - Elbow
4. Everything Ecstatic - Four Tet
5. Silent Alarm - Bloc Party

The Meadowlands is 2003...

Oooh, really?

A couple of people have voted for it, so should I 'strike' it from the 'record'?

I say yes...

it's understandable for records like Funeral released in lateish 2004 and released here in 2005...

2003 is too remote says I.

bastard.

Fine, for Meadowlands read Open Season.

Here goes then

I'm not much of a music buyer compared to a lot of you folks but here's my top 5:

1 - Patrick Wolf - Wind In The Wires
2 - Laura Veirs - Year Of Meteors
3 - Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
4 - KT Tunstall: Eye To The Telescope
5 - Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It...

Poverty and the fact that I don't do file-sharing means that I'm picking a top 4 from a pretty small selection of albums from 2005 that I've actually heard in full. Anyway. there's my top 5.

nice idea

3. Kinesis - You are being lied to
4. MIA - Arular

More than 5? Oh, go on then!

No problem with listing more than five, it's just the 'extra' albums won't score any points.

Early indications are that Arcade Fire are going to win this so easily it's not funny which I'm sure everybody knew anyway. So we are as predictable as Q. Well you lot are, I still think Funeral is hideously ordinary. Bah. And in case anybody is worried, I do know how to spell fascist correctly.

29!!!

excepting 29 which could be album of the year yet

The Sunset Tree: The Mountain Goats
Jacksonville City Nights: Ryan Adams and the Cardinals

NHS are like

A REALLY REALLY amazing cake, or sandwich or something, that makes your jaw drop because of it's yumminess.
Alternatively they are a "positive hardcore dance-rap" band from Toronto.
Even self-confessed hip hop haters (mad men, I know!) have been known to like NHS.

You can. It's on my list.

So there...

:P

it is ace

so I'll let you off :D

See my other comment ^^

You can count "Funeral" because it was first released in the UK in 2005.

You can't count "Thunder Lightning Strike" because its first UK release was last year.

If you can count american releases early

then i can count them late

....

1.400 Blows - Angels Trumpets and Devils Trombones
2. Part Chimp - I AM Come
3. Six Organs of Admittance - School of the Flower
4.Quasimoto - Further adventures of lord quas
5. Dead Meadow - Feather

this is slightly different to my list on the dis myspace page, seeing DM last week made me listen to Feathers and its amazing. A lot better than Hypermagic Mountain.

Top 7

1. Antony & The Johnsons - I am a bird now
2. Low - The Great Destroyer
3. Electrelane - Axes
4. Part Chimp - I am come
5. Silver Jews - Tanglewood Numbers
6. Sunn o))) - black 1
7. LCD Soundsysterm - s/t

Erm, why oh why oh why is Antony not running away with this?

And I've not really got to the new Lightning Bolt - loved the others - but this one got thrown off the stereo after 10 minutes - must give it another go.....

Damn

I forgot the Sunn album. That is pretty good. Hmmmm.

..

Are Dead Meadow like Lightning Bolt then?

No

they are stoner metal shoe-gazing type thing. Its just I made a list for the DIS myspace page and instead of Dead Meadow I had Lightning Bolt at number 5.

"why oh why is Antony not running away with this"

I bought the album on the basis of Hope There's Someone (which I still think is amazing) and was quite disappointed. Whereas that song is chilling and soaring, too much of the album is surprisingly AOR and lounge-ish. His voice doesn't often reach the same levels of drama and beauty that the first track acheives, and the lyrics are often too simplistic (the sentiments are lovely but by the time he tells us for the 20th time that he wishes he was a woman, it starts to get a little tiresome). There are a couple of other high points (Fistful Of Love is very good) but generally I was expecting better.

hmm..

1. Funeral- Arcade Fire
2. Be- Common
3. Thunder, Lightning, Strike- Go! Team
4. Veneer- Jose Gonzalez
5. Strasbourg + - The Rakes

the rakes

album was called Capture/Release : )

oops

oh yes of course
