After releasing their self-financed debut album this summer to joyous praise and engulfing rock telly with their smash hit single, ‘You’ve Got Satan’, you would have expected them to be slightly higher up the bill in a slightly larger venue by now. Word of mouth gets you only so far and although a hundred people may be many for a support act, it is not enough for Thoria.

Why isn’t it too damp to take breath? Why can I still shuffle the shopping by my feet and not have to apologise to anyone? It is dispiriting that such a magnificent band who have worked so very hard struggle to pull an audience as meagre as this.

Evoking memories of Nirvana should be unnecessary at the moment, seeing as Nirvana just released their new album … uh, what the fuck, isn’t he dead? But still, there is always space for another new rancid-crawed grunge band, in my heart at least.

Blistering through songs like ‘Keep 'Em In The Attic’ made you want to scream out for the vagrants and hobos to crawl in off the streets just so they could know what they’re missing out on. Pull them in from the pubs, the bars, the petrol stations. Make them listen. There is little here for you to understand. There is less even to think about, perhaps. All that is required is to listen.
