In the Navy....
The Navy have just rung me.
I signed up to be contacted about any jobs with them because for a while I was interested in joining you see.
The Navy are desperately looking for writers. These are the people that deal with correspondence, checks, pay etc and generally all the paperwork. They work either on land or sea and do everything from writing warrants to first aid and with my qualifications I might be able to soon advance to Chief Petty Officer and people will have to call me MA'AM!
Eat your heart out Bown you fuck for calling me MATE for all those months when you knew my name very fucking well.
The job pays VERY WELL and looks after you with a pension and healthcare plans and everything. It's the same with the RAF - Medics are needed and they would give somewhere to live incase of never having somewhere, (and living on base), which you would pay something like 40p a week rent on and 50p council tax....or so according to the Army.
It would even help with University as the Navy would fund me in part and still pay me.
BUT
The reasons for my not doing it are due to the fact that it would be extremely utterly selfish and unfair of me, I don't want to leave my boyfriend for six months or so. It's too long a time to be away for either of us, or for I suppose anyone that matter and I can't ask him to relocate, he has a job and a life here - I couldn't do that, I'm not that selfish, it's not right....I'm not my mother who thinks that someone should drop everything they'd ever known and move away for her own reasons.
I would join if I could have a shore job nearby, (Harwich for instance), and didn't have to go straight from training to ship and if I did have to be away only a week and if I could come home in the evenings.
But that's what life in the armed forces is like - so for now I'll be content with the Territorial Army which pays and means I can go home in the evening.
Better start getting in shape.
Tomorrow....maybe.
-
then...
in the navy !
