If you find yourself wanting more afterwards, look around for 'Pacer' by the Amps. It's basically the Breeders, without the rest of the Breeders but Kim (who calls herself Tammy Ampersand on this album, for some reason)
I too find Pod the better overall album, though Last Splash is a little more easy-going to start with. I think Pod is my favourite. Bloody hell. I can't really remember. I haven't actually listened to the Breeders in years. Frank Black on the other hand; I never fell out with him.
listening to Breeders stuff more than I do Frank Blacks solo stuff.
You may as well do it in chronological order. I actually started with Title T-K and thought that and Boards Of Canada-Geogaddie were the two best new albums I got in 2002.
As mentioned above, you should also get Pacer by The Amps, that's a great album.
Last Splash is good but I must say it is my least favourite of the three. Pod is wonderful and sounds so good, bleak drums and bass - so much concentration on the singing = good, good, good. Title TK though is the best; best songs, fucking awesome sound and as the first poster said, tunes that just make you weep. I cried when I first heard Kim sing Off You live. That may have been the poppers, though.
"Last Splash" is much more engaging on first listen, and has big radio-friendly hits. Both of the other two are more low-key and lo-fi, but "Pod" in particular really grows on you the more you listen to it. It does sound quite a lot like a four-track demo, though, so if you want something polished then "Last Splash" is a better bet. "Off You" is on "Title TK", which in my opinion is like "Pod" but not as good.
.
Last Splash > Pod > Title TK
Complete.

i would say
pod is their most coherent album. and their best, if only for their unique take on happiness is a warm gun.

The Breeders
are one of the best live bands I've seen.
a tough question
