my uncle's an mc and my brother blasts it 24/7 so i kind of don't have a choice but to listen to it.
i think it's kind of fun to try and sing along with, especially all the woofs! i couldn't listen to it as a serious genre on my mp3 player though, i don't think.
your thoughts?
"as a serious genre"?
what the hell. i don't know what i was thinking either. just pretend you know what i meant.
i mean i couldn't listen to it like i listen to the music i do listen to, yagetme?
"SAAAFFFE"
"BRRAAAPP"
i thought brap was a hip-hop thing?
what do i know.
I like drum and bass
I can listen to it at home like I would any other music and enjoy it. High Contrast is probably my favourite DnB artist, I love 'high society', it's melodic, soulful, full of emotion and totally miles ahead of anything else being done in that genre. And his new fabric cd is awesome. Best fabric cd yet, possibly.
I too
Like a bit of drum and bass. I also like psy trance like Infected Mushroom, and when I go to squat parties/dodgy clubs in London Bridge, I always end up meeting friendly people and dancing like a nutter. I don't listen to it alot at home though, it winds me up after a while.
I used to listen to psy trance
because I knew someone who DJed it, infected mushroom are ace. And astral projection. Well, I say ace now but I haven't listened to it for years, it could sound shit now.
I use to listen to DnB when I was 15 though
Not really listened to it for years until fairly recently. It can be really jarring and derivative but there is good stuff to be found, as there is in any genre I guess.
Hate
it.
The vocals sound like someone practising to be a horse racing commentator.
haha
ace.
not all drum and bass has shit MCs over the top of it, I guess that's more a jungle thing, which isn't very good.
I like it
You can't beat a good bit of drum and bass now and then but I see it more as a style to dance to when you're out more than something I would listen to at home, I mean I still do (I have Westside Chemical playing right now) but I tend to put other styles above it. And on the subject of vocals a lot of the time I think it actually works much better without vocals (especially female vocals).
I love it like a shlaig
I listen to dnb about a fifth of the time accoding to winamp.
I love dancing to it, the best 'dance' genre, i can see what people mean when they say about not listening to it at home.
i know...
smallpox loves a rave, loves a rave. it is easy to dance to while out without having to previously know the song, as wud be the case when out in a club playing indie, though i listen to DnB at home, its top notch. Fabric 30 th of janaury yeah, safe!
Hmmm...I can listen to it on the odd occasion!
Photek is pretty good!
DnB
Danced to it last night, wouldn't listen to it on my own though. I've got mates who are really into it; I think it's a bit annoying after a while.
nice
and energising, say I. Though I only have 2 Roni Size albums as my drum n bass collection at the moment.
Any recommendations? Preferably intelligent and creative but still making one want to go quite mental.
anything by photek!
He remixed NIN, Gwen stefani and Therapy? amongst others.
His own stuff is pretty good too. Baltimore is a top track!
sounds good
will 'check out'
somebody
told me good things about pendulum, also...?
there's one pendulum track that goes
"BLAD TARANTULAAAAA! bidaboiggvsvssaa*" which is quite fun.
*this part was improvised.
Jungle is ace
but it's really difficult to go to a club these days and hear anything new. The last couple of nights I've been to, the DJ keeps throwing in old classics like 'It's Jazzy', 'Bad Ass' and that quality old Origin Unknown tune, just to keep the punters interested it seems.
At it's peak in 97ish, jungle was brilliant, signature sounds, loads of classics, drugs a plenty, loads of people into it, loads of decent nights.
But it gets tired after a while and there are only so many times that you can see a DJ playing records.
Oh and rewinds every 2nd song used to piss me off royally. MC's like GQ are awesome but my fave DJ's tended to be Mickey Finn and Andy C
i like
socialist by PiL.
They may not have been a DnB act, but it's a good song.
yes please
i funking love drum n bass!
...and jungle and breakcore and all that other kind of stuff.
ive got so fed up with indie nights, its always the same tunes with people thinking they're too cool to have fun.
i dont like liquid tho, s'all about the darkside/dirty stuff init
Anyone else...
...go to Grace last night at Herbal? Pendulum and Loxy banging out heavy sets 'till 2, just what the doctor ordered for New Years day.
If DiS started publishing DnB reviews and generally just featuring it to a larger extent on the site, would people read it?
Because I think there's a chance it could be arranged...
I listened to nothing but
drum and bass for 2 years. Andy C, Ed Rush and Optical, Krust, Mickey Finn, Bad Company, Johnny L .. good stuff.
wow
i didn't expect such positive responses.
I probably
listen to drum and bass about 50% of the time at home at the moment. D n'B nights are great fun and i reckon you tend to get a better crowd at them when compared with rock nights.
about
half my listening time is DnB too at the moment, especially through headphones on the train...
I would recommend -
Tali - DnB's M.I.A. really, fucking good MC. from NZ
Shapeshifter - (not the chart bothering dance act with an 's' on the end)Also from NZ, they play live as a band, one of the best live shows I've ever been to, so much energy. Check out the album Riddim Wise too.
Dieselboy - US producer with some jaw dropping mixes, can't wait for Manga's 10th birthday in Edin this month!
dnb is fun and games
for a night out on the pop. which reminds me, i was supposed to be looking at fabric lineups tonight. :)
the phrase
'chart bothering' owns so severely.
