Virgin poll reveals Lennon's Imagine as best-ever single

Virgin Radio recently polled some 7,000 of its listeners to discover their favourite single of all time. That's, like, ever. The winner: John Lennon's 'Imagine'.

Shoved into second and third places were 'Hey Jude' and 'Let It Be', which of course involved Lennon in some way, too.

The top ten goes like this:

1: John Lennon 'Imagine'
2: The Beatles 'Hey Jude'
3: The Beatles 'Let It Be'
4: U2 'One'
5: Robbie Williams 'Angels'
6: Queen 'Bohemian Rhapsody'
7: Led Zeppelin 'Stairway To Heaven'
8: The Police 'Every Breath You Take'
9: The Eagles 'Hotel California'
10: James fucking cunting Blunt 'You're Beautiful'

Y'see, I was always of the thinking that 'Stairway...' was never released as a single. But, I suppose I'm wrong, just like all the Virgin Radio listeners that somehow voted for Blunt to be way up there. Anyway, overall The Beatles appear 33 times (there's a list of 500 in all), The Rolling Stones 17 times, U2 15 times and Queen 14 times. Bravo.

I think that James Blunt song is really good

and deserves to be voted the 10th best single of all time.

why?

why not 1st??/

What a

thoroughly predictable list.YAWN.

Imagine

is number one? PUKE.

What a crock of shit.

Some people just deserve to die

Notably, the listeners of Virgin Radio. Why don't they just exhume him and suck his cock? we all know that they're begging for it.

Oh dear

It's times like this that I think myself lucky that I can barely recieve Radio 1 and nothing else...

Great use of the word 'cunting'.

worst list EVER

i hate virgin radion, but i love the beatles, yet their listeners manage to choose possibly the two worst beatles songs of all time to be there. shocking! the same goes with lennon, so many of his songs were better than imagine. i don't think comment on james blunt is really needed - fuck right off

*fucks right off*

(to lunch)

Too right

I really *hate* Hey Jude and Let it Be.. and Imagine is totally overrated too. There are so so many better Beatles / Lennon songs... sigh. Still.. I guess its the market they were appealing to... if they'd asked the same question to Evening Session listeners, or Xfm listeners, the result would have been very different (although I'm sure Smells Like Teen Spirit would have been in there and there are way too many better Nirvana songs for that to get a place) - it was just predictable.

*shakes head*

this country...

Stairway to Heaven

wasn't released as a single but I think Virgin radio just said it was a top 500, not that it was top 500 singles. Virgin listeners were never going to pick anything too interesting but theres no need for Blunt.

Still, at least the JCB song wasn't there.

I don't think Zep

ever released any singles.

i barely

care enough to post this.
really. who gives a shit?

where the fuck

is rolf harris?

People are deaf

or just aurally dead, one or t'other.

But then it was Virgin.

More interestingly, Newsnight viewers voted The Holy Bible as their favourite record. which is a little bizzre.

James Blunt

had the power to distract u from Knobbie Williams being number 6...and also the MOR antics of the police and the eagles...FUCK VIRGIN RADIO(slight double meaning)....

HA HA HA

jokes...(though understandable if looking at politics...it must be one of the best political albums of all time)

breastfuck

As a long-time Beatles hater, this article fills me with more joy than you'd imagine... ;)
