The two afro'd parts of At The Drive-In are touring stadiums already? And working with superstars?

Cedric and Omar's band The Mars Volta have nearly finished recording their debut album in L.A. with Rick Rubin who's worked with SOAD, RHCP and RunDMC. We've heard that Flea (RHCP) plays bass on the recording!

Also, according to dosomethingpretty.com, Cedric and Omar’s experimental dub side project, De Facto, has also been seen jamming with Chilli Pepper John Frusciante.

The Volta's go out on tour supporting the Chili Peppers in March...

March 2003
5th GLASGOW SECC
8th LONDON DOCKLANDS ARENA
9th LONDON DOCKLANDS ARENA
11th MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS ARENA

Also the band's label Gold Standard Labs are adament to disconnect themselves with the Universal Empire... "GSL 110% independent from Universal Records. I repeat, GSL and Universal are separate, autonomous, and have virtually no contact besides planning re: The Mars Volta. Omar's BAND signed to Universal - not his LABEL. End of story."

DiScuss: Mars Volta better than ATD-i? Heard of any Mars Volta shows in venues where you can actually see/hear them? Wanna share your ATD-i memories?

Mars Volta (atdi) VS Chilli's

daaaaaamn. docklands arena. bummer. they're good live as well. don't fancy seeing them there though. hopefully there'll be some smaller headline dates. mean fiddler would be good. the garage would be fucking fantastic, but unlikely.

Re: Mars Volta (atdi) VS Chilli's

Mars Volta, better than ATD-I. Not yet methinks. But soon. Soon... Work with Rick Rubin might be interested

And I think Sparta's album was average, with the exception of a few excellent songs, so the afro's win.

Mars Volta (atdi) VS Chilis

i only got to see ADT-I at reading, that was one helluva show it's stuck in my head ever since. think that's why hundred reasons seem so limp and poncey.

did anyone else see them at reading that time?

What?

A MArs volta gig which i saw and heard?! You people mustve been to a venue full of insulating foam or something :O) Last year, March 22nd, London ULU. Twas the best gig i have ever been to.

HELL YES.

goddamn. it was beautiful. if i had a top 5 list of my favourite gigs, it'd be in there. hence why i can't bear to see them in the soul-drained airplane hangar that is the docklands arena. it'd taint the memory. hopefully they'll schedule a few of their own smaller headline dates. the mean fiddler seems a logical choice of location.
