The aural equivalent of a punch in the face, ¡Forward Russia! kick off 2006 with a bang. Who says January has to be a slow month for music? This two minute slice of frenzied post-punk is anything but, hurtling out of the blocks like a left-over Christmas cracker injected with petrol and set alight.

According to the sleeve, the lyrics talk of Einstein and equations but with such a righteous racket going on in the foreground you're unlikely to hear them. Broken glass guitars, breakneck bass and the singer's yelped vocal delivery are the most immediate highlights of 'Twelve', but it's the hooks that stick in your brain and make you ponder whether this could prove to be ¡Forward Russia!'s knock-out blow.

Summed up by

At The Drive-In crossed with Bloc Party. This song, at any rate. I'm undecided on this band, I can imagine they'd be very much fun live, and this song's good on record but...well, we'll see.

They...

...are great live. Energetic and, yes, fun. They also have tuuuuuunes to back it all up. And a female drummer. Muchos reccomended.

and they have a

COWBELL!!!!!!!!

Woooo

Great.

poo

i suppose you can afford to put out any music you want when a warners publishing deal is paying for it...

thats

really insightful

well done

wonderful

live... I know everyone has already said it but still...
good on cd too though

huh?

if that's directed at forward russia, they're unsigned, and are putting this out on the guitarist's own label :S

but

they do have a publishing deal.
not that i can see what that's got to do with anything, really, seeing as it's not even an issue brought up in the review.

since when

has commenting on a review been about commenting on the review.

ok, i get your point, i'll shut up now.

you don't know what you're talking about, then...

you do understand that publishers publish bands that they like the sound of, yes? they don't just give money to bands they like the look of and say "we have no idea what you sound like, so release any old shit".

Also, all your favourite bands have publishing deals, so don't bring it up as if forward russia have been slipped underhand moneys or a sponsorship from starbucks or something. Furthermore, i can guarantee that forward russia's publishing deal was far less substantial than those for their more bland contemporaries, such as hard-fi, razorlight, etc.

Regardless of whether you like the song, i think they more than deserve kudos for being musically adventurous and, in light of record label snobbery and shunnery, had the balls to release this insanely anticommercial song into an extremely dull and commercial market.

Live

this band (in their matching t-shirts too don't forget) are amazing. Also Dance To The Radio is a class label. I suppose sound a bit like I'm trying to sell this to everyone (sorry)- just really agree with the review.

Oh and the refrain in this song (for those who can't get the lyrics) is, apparently, "and your conscience is low", whatever that means. Just so you don't embarrass yourself by making up your own lyrics as you sing along. Not that I did or anything.

Hmmmm

Can't decide on this band...They're just so insermountably pretentious...but should I let that deprive me of some great pop? My heart says no...but my head says maybe.

???

How are they pretentious?

they're...

ok this band but at times a bit too contrived maybe. There's other bands that do this kind of stuff alot better. They maybe should start giving their songs title because numbers get dull.

I

love that label name.

I now have more respect for them because of that brilliant name.

lesbianDENNIS will be on that label.

This band...

...own.

End of.

They sound

a lot like Biffy Clyro, musically. In fact, the first song they played when I saw them (don't ask me what it's called... 8 or something) knicked an entire twonky-guitar-solo-bit from a Biffy song. Good band though

..

I think this single is a real kick in the teeth to UK music. This literally shits all over Bloc Party's last single release (zzzzznore) and is exciting, fresh and the guitars are awesome.

I prefer 13 and 4

but this is the best band in Britain. Everything else is very anaemic. Along with Mystery Jets and Johnny Boy they're the only new British band that interests me.

That should say

best NEW band. They're are better British bands.

THERE are...

Damn my grammar.

I Love this

band. Amazing live, they actually make me wanna get off my arse and dance around like a mad thing. They deserve to be huge.

Pure Class...

I fucking love this single. It reminds of when Roddy was still chewing the stage in Idlewild, Is as thrilling as the A.T.D.I's peaks and even manages to go all cutesy with the layer of Xylophone at the end...
The Block Party comparison is fucking lackadaisical...'Two More Years' was pure Grimsby drizzle...Twelve is shooting speed...
I have to say I was a minor naysayer on the F.R front until I heard this, I enjoyed them and though they had promise but lacked direction...This song COMPLETELY changed my mind.

OH NO!

an amazing band is being PAID to make music!!!! aaaahhhh satan. forward russia are kings (and queen) amongst men, whatever they get they derserve.

Aww

Bless. Bad day? Don't worry, my grammar is also appalling.

oooh

not so keen on 4, but 13 is top... and well, Mystery jets, what can I say?

heard this

think its ass

Great band...

...but if they start racking up loads of songs its all going to get very confusing for everyone.

Shit

Shit
Shit

single is...

pap. why do we keep seeing them and The Long Blondes around? What makes them so great exactly? I'm really not getting it. Long Blondes are 10x better than FR and that's saying something...

:oD

Quality

3 Q's. Quality band, Quality single, Quality.

bouncing around the room wishing I had padded walls which I could bounce off of

It's the best Futureheads song the Futureheads never made.
Sheer brilliance.
