Gigwise.com is today reporting that Radiohead are to headline this year's V Festival.

The website refers to a source, not named, who has it on good authority that the band have signed on the line. There's been no word, as yet, from the Radiohead camp.

The twin-site event, held in Chelmsford and Stafford, takes place on the 19th and 20th of August this summer.

there was

thread about this a while ago, called 'Festival predictions' i think, can't be bothered to find it now.

I can only really see them playing Glastonbury or doing one of their own festival type things

its pretty simple:

WHY would they play V?
WHY? they could choose to play any festival they wanted, and easily have the power to do their own festival. maybe they dont care about the stigma attached to V. but id guess theyd just not want to do that.

How depressing.

What happened to radiohead's anti-corporate stance?
Fucking V Festival is the worst thing on the calendar.

i spilt some coffee on my calendar

that was pretty bad

it's almost as bad as

sonic youth doing it last year.
just..why?

I

don't think they're going to do it.

I just can't see what's possibly in it for them, bearing in mind their strong anticorporate and fiercly independent stance.

That said I'd be the first to get a ticket if they did...

well

coming from outside the UK, maybe SY just didn't know the stigma around it? the only other festival around that time is Reading/Leeds, and I'm not sure they'd book SY..

then again, when have SY not been fiercely contradictive bastards?

well

it's probably rubbish.
anyone who's followed radiohead over the last few years and is aware of the decisions they've made, could tell you that straight off.

when was the last time they played a UK festival apart from glastonbury? hmmm, 1994...

chances are they won't even re-sign with a major label now their parlophone deal is complete.

if they were doing the festivals and didn't want the effort of staging their own one, they wouldn't have a lot of choice this year, with no glasto. But they aren't promoting a new record, so it will likely be some more lowkey gigs this year, then a full tour and glasto next year.

my guess...

Em Alexduck...

Radiohead played T in the Park in 96.

AND

is their new album not scheduled to be released before the festivals this year?

maybe V's changing?

perhaps V have got some new guy with good taste working for the better good. I went last year and had a great time, generally avoiding the Maroon 5 loving cunts on the main stage and seeing amazing performances from Emiliana Torrini, Johnathan Rice, Doves, Polyphonic Spree and Sonic Youth. SY played in the 'JJB' arena - perhaps they thought it was ironic.

Even if the bands they book change, it'll take a long time for V to change it's clientele. Myself and Steve Lamacq once agreed that it was the 'Disney' of festivals. Corporate and full of (festival) tourists rather than music lovers.

Gawwwd

I love radiohead beyond words, but refuse to buy a ticket for V...Let all the families take their picnic blankets and request Creep.

yeh.

I'd wait until...

...Radiohead confirm this. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing they'd ever do (especially V - the only carpeted festival, for god's sake).

what?

What right have you got to judge other people? can't stand people who think that only 'proper' music fans should be allowed to enjoy radiohead's music-sorry,but it's elitist bollocks. I don't believe for a second that Radiohead would agree with your view. Let people discover them - bit late in the day but who cares? You apparently.

..

They won't do it.

Come on. Playing their music surrounded by big fucking Virgin Cola adverts?

Puuuuuhhhlease.

aw not V

common anything but V is ddduuulllll and even radiohead couldn't save

whose headlining the other day ? BLUNT ?

Not bothered...

The Who...apparently.

It's a war between V and the Carling Weekend for the Glasto bands this year.

As for somebody who loves music and Radiohead, I don't care whether they play V or not, as long as I get to see them at some point. It doesn't matter where I see them, nothing will ruin it for me.

you gotta love elitism

ah this old chestnut again. Everyone always shits on the V lineup saying its mainstream or whatever and then when they finally get someone that people here like (Sonic Youth, Pixies and now it would seem radiohead) people complain that they shouldn't be on the bill. Theres just no pleasing some people.

Don't say anything about V...

Until you've been. And I have. And its awful. I had to stand through an hour and a half of Dido to get a good place for Muse. Never again.

Lowlands

Sounds good to me. No idea who's on or owt, buts cheap as feck. And Dutch. Which is nice.

Me too.

Damn muse for only giving V as a choice if you didn't get Glasto tickets. I was standing next to some bird from big brother during Dido waiting for muse to come on. It was painful.
I think I got bugged about buying a Virgin mobile phone..5 times?

Isn't Leeds just as corporate as V?

I went to V a couple of years ago and had quite a good time. Generally stay away from the main stage and it's good. And as people don't ever move from the main stage you have plenty of room.

Did you stop dancing at 11

And go back to your campsite, to not have a fire?

Ace.

well..

I found it terribly difficult to get around at V. The site was terribly crouded and it took me ages to actually find the main stage. (this was at Chelmsford)

radiohead, v, somethings just not right about that

i heard the rumhor about radiohead playying at v a few years ago, being about 13 i believed it, but still, knowwing better now, it's probably not true, so check it out before you book tickets

V?

Have always refused to go to the MacDonalds of festivals, even when they had Primal Scream.

V is Carpeted? hahahahahahaha that cant be true

Really cant see them doing this, but if they do, I will go.
