Flaming Lips Yoshimi

I don't know whether Wayne Coyne and his merry band of cohorts are referring to some very deep and complex issue through the use of metaphorical language or whether they are actually just praising the work of super agents defending the population (in Flaming Lips Land) of giant robotic killers. But whatever the message, the latest single off the album is an unadulterated joy.

I rather hope that there is no double-speak going on and the lyrics do refer to a shadowy band of do-gooders out to stop larger nefarious furry androids intent on crushing human spirit where it lingers. You could make a case for the Lips to be the agents themselves, battling an increasingly overpoweringly bland music industry with genius lines such as "please don't let those robots eat me, Yoshimi".

But maybe that is all searching too hard for double meanings when all you need to know that whatever else is happening in the world, The Flaming Lips are keeping you safe and happy with another masterful piece of pop perfection.

The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (pt.1)

Am I the only person who thinks this song is utterly shit then? I quite like Flaming Lips but for some reason this song just reminds me of the kinda crap Floella Benjamin and Derek Griffiths used to sing when I was a kid.

i love it to bits. always a bit hit n miss with the flaming lips, they've had some great stuff and some heroically atrocious stuff. but i like this. pretty tune, funny lyrics, and it just has charm - something that a lot of bands, for all their musical competence, lack.
