The Newcastle art-rockers were left playing to a less-than-full venue once the band before them, the 100,000-records-in-a-day Arctic Monkeys, had finished, causing at least a fifth of the crowd to leave.
The gig was held at Dublin's Ambassadors venue. If anyone was there, please let us know if certain people in the crowd really did just leave. It's just not cricket, is it?

I went to an nme tour gig more than a fifth of the crowd left before the headline set including myself but this did not make the news. The headliner was Funeral for a Friend which perhaps explains it.
I still don't understand why maximo are doing this tour, I think personally think it's a mistake by their management. They should be in the studio recording or taking a break ready for the summer festivals.

It was pretty obvious the Monkeys would become bigger than Maximo Park.

They were bigger before the tour was booked. Arctic monkeys were selling out venues in october in weeks where maximo park had tickets left for the same size venues on the doors.

i had to leave during maximo park for the sake of my sanity. that frontman is an asshole, the music was even more boring (except grafitti which was quite good) and the keyboard player looked like a right twat. whole gig pretty poop. dublin's alright though.

...on the Andrew WK/LostProphets year too. I thought Andrew WK was top entertainment (I know he's not rocket science but he IS entertaining) and LostProphets bored the life out of me, so this annoyed me. It annoyed me more because of how heavily premeditated it appeared to be... it had 'internet campaign' written all over it.

This sort of thing happens all the time, I've even played a couple of main support gigs where more than half the crowd have left after us and before the headliner. It's just the same as people turning up after the support bands have been on to see the band they bought tickets for. Obviously anything is newsworthy where Arctic Monkeys are concerned though.
