Are fucking brilliant aren't they? Just heard Here Comes The Rumour Mill for the first time, and it is just as good as their other stuff
Junky Music... is an awesome EP, and if the album is as good, I may soil myself

yes they are good
and i'm glad to see they're finally making it...
the young people
are better
I am the Prince of Wales
I am the Prince of Wales
And if all else fails
I am the Prince of Wales
*raises hand for high five*
*takes high five*
Whoop!
..
i remember seeing their video yonks ago on mtv2 late at night, it was when the guitarist had a well groovey beard. Cant remember the name of it though, great song :S
wait...
the young knives...good? i saw them a few months ago and i was thoroughly bored. im fucking sick of ties, inward foot stance guitar playing and angular riffs. the futureheads did it and they're good. the young knives just bore me.
?
Isn't Zane Lowe having them in session this week too?
I
think he had them in last week. not a surprise he bums shit bands. i can hear his voice already, 'the young knives are probably one of the hottest bands in the world right now'. they'll have disappeared soon.
to quote Chris Morris
"you're wrong and you're a grotesquely ugly freak"
although now I read what you said again, you were factually correct, but I am confused at how somone would not enjoy the fun of the knives
i
didnt enjoy them simply because they had nothing original about them or their songs-predictable style and attitude and sound. boo. the rumblestrips supported. they are good.
They're a bit more fun that most bands using that style though
weekends and bleak days for instance makes me lol and rofl periodically.
they kind of sound like bandwagon jumpers...
...but seeing as I first saw them something like 2 and a half years ago, maybe it's just that the bandwagon's caught up with THEM.
thought they were pretty good, but might have just been a "oooh, unexpected fun music in a scummy local venue" thing.
yeah
they have been around for years and they have sounded like they do now (vaguely) for years.
do you reckon...
...the singer looks like Tom Baker?
I did.
even
if they have been around for years so have the other bands that sound like them. the only reason the young knives are just breaking into the mainstream is because theyre not as good as other bands who did it a year or so ago. maybe im wrong, but it makes sense.
maybe its because
they aren't so photogenic. Or that they weren't touring as much. Or that they had a bit of a change musically. Or that they were perfecting their style. Or that they used to get stage fright a bit, drink too much and be less tight than that post-punk style requires. (+ about 1 million other possible reasons)
Its a little unfair to say that just because they are becoming popular later they aren't as talented.
Some really talented people never get anywhere and some hugely succesul people sit in obscurit forever.
Spot on!
Loads of bands never get anywhere that deserve to.
I'm glad to see them doing so well. I'd never heard of them until last year, but they're fantastic.
christ yeah...
just read today that Monkey Boy are still self-financing and doing the toilet circuit, while Arctic Monkeys have been together for 5 minutes and are already getting bummed up the charts.
no justice in this world...
young knives
I saw them live a couple of years ago and even then they were fantastic,
Their shows had great energy and were very very funny.
I had heard of them a while ago as they were signed to Shifty Disco and I have been a very big fan of this label.
They have never given their bands too much exposure but they have had some incredible artists.
A very underrated label.
I mean they have had young knives, Dustball, unbeliavable truth, AM60 (my fave band),Jack Drag,
So many great artists that never got the success they deserved.
It will be great if young knives become huge.
I can't believe
there is a Young Knives thread and I have not been on here yet to remind folk how fucking deeply average they are. Fortunately, I see some others have beaten me to it.
i find them
even more avergae than the rakes and that is saying something. None of it inspires me with any passion, nor sounds like it is made with any passion at all. There is nothing to love here, it's scenster music in it's purest from 3 min intricate prog rock songs.
hoorah
someone else agrees. thank fuck for that.
.
the young knives are shit.
didnt dustball split up? or am i thinking of someone else?? cos they were good!
dustball stopped being dustball
they are now dive dive and they released an album on a crappy label last year. They will be re-releasing it this year and it'll be great.
shifty disco
I used to religiously buy shifty disco singles (got a whole drawer of the little cardboard sleeve ones somewhere...) but honestly I can't say I really got that much out of them.
I used to think they were a really good label, but thinking about it they can't be that good if they've got so many bands that sound like popular bands, and they're all playing toilets and selling no records. maybe some cleverer promoting needed? I dunno.
oh, and I once had £20 to spend on food for a week, and spent £14 of it on the Dustball album in the shiny silver ball :)
.
the decision is a great single, and gave me high hope for the follow up, which were sadly not met.
Still a good group though in my op. Have to say it's about time there were less bands doing the angular eighties guitar thing.
I still don't buy the eighties as a time of amazing music. The sixties were good, the eighties were shit. End of story.
but then
just as there is more to the 60's than the beatles, there is more to the eighties than gang of four.
.
Yes, there are amazing eighties bands, other than gang of four my favourites are the Young Marble Giants and Felt.
The Beatles are probably my least favourite band of all time.
Neither of which detracts from my opinion- the sixties were good, the eighties were shit. There were simply more amazing bands operating in the sixties than the eighties, and a larger volume of great and different records were made. In my opinion
Hello
neil_t, Silentcommand, bones_howe
I am right, you are WRONG
no
i am right, albeit littered with appalling typos, i am right.
The young knives, now they are wrong ;)
no
we're right. you obviously don't know what you're talking about.
i saw them
at the opening slot of a festival last year, (v if you must know, they won some unsigned competition thing) and they were very good on a big stage and appeared to win over the crowd, and i agree with grockle.
Well, bones_howe and neil_t
It would appear we have stumbled upon a difference in opinion
A knife fight is the only sensible way of resolving this
