did anyone else see the books/clogs on this tour? saw them last night in brighton and it was one of the best shows i've seen in so long - subtle, beautiful, inventive.. yes yes.
clogs were interesting.. sort of like Low writing incidental music for medieval soap operas. pretty though.

yes yes yes

i saw them in glasgow on wednesday and they were amazing. best gig of 2006 so far. mmm lovely.

yeah they were totally brilliant at the luminaire.

Definitely the best thing I've seen so far this year.

Only thing was I didn't know whether to be watching the AWESOME visuals or the AWESOME violin player in clogs. I wish my eyes could go in seperate directions.

the videos were a nice touch.

the phonetic spellings were good, as was that bizarre old newsreel of some unblinking man squeeking his hands (did you get that also?)

haha yeah!

that violin guy was AMAZING. he did such a funny dance when he was playing :D and he had a weird little ponytail which was quite distracting.
the videos were ace though. especially the meditation one in the middle. :D

I fecking didn't

but my brother saw them in Newcastle and said they were amazing and my friend saw them in a shed somewhere apparently, where they were also amazing.

I have a few photos from the gig which are scant consolation. I am very jealous.

homesick_alien and nice_squirrel

were raving about Friday's gig yesterday. One of them's bound to be on line soon.

uh huh

looky uppy ^^^

Yeah yeah

note that you were 2 minutes behind me. Just got up? A bit hungover are we?

I was actually unaffected by beer today. I mean, I didn't even have that normal utter wasted feeling and I was really quite drunk last night I think. :-D

Me too

my voice is back almost to full strength!

glad

good to hear.

I'm going to see them

when they play in manchester.

i.e. never

They might

don't be such a pessimist!

Fairpoint - Colin get rid of the thread mentioned above!

good

maybe if we tell them they'll come.

Mr Book no.1: 'oh well, if at least two people are going it'll be worth it'

Mr Book no.2: 'I don't care how many people are there, it's all about the music, you're a capitalist scum'

Mr Book no.1: 'That's it! I'm quitting the band!'

oh dear... maybe we shouldn't do that after all.

Righty-ho young Sonny Jim old fella-me-lad matey-skip me old pal from the briny

Friday's gig in Londres was AWESOME. I never use that word but it truly was beautiful and wonderful and captivating and intriguing and surprising and delightful and lots of other things.

Did y'all make your frogs?

oh

it was so good. So perfect and well rehearsed and amusing and beautiful. Love the Books. And Clogs. Lovely.

Frogs?

Eh? Explain, woman.

We all got

frogs to make.

A lovely touch.

Did anyone go to

the one in the middle of nowhere in Yorkshire?

wow

i just found out that the guitarist of clogs is in the national.
he also looks exactly like ben stiller.

we had a similar epiphany

except it was due to matching up his head bobbing movements.

another member of clogs is in the national too. this only makes my love more great.

which one is it?

is it the australian man with the funny ponytail?
also: what was the instrument the lady was playing? bassoon? oboe? flute?

it's a bassoon

and actually, the violin was a viola, I think. h_a spotted the National guy too.

dunno which one it was factually

it just said it on the bit of the frog that isn't the frog...

chuff me,

so he is. well spotted.

the drummer was also marcus brigstocke. (that might be a lie.)

I'm pretty sure

Cillian Murphy was watching the London show. BATMANCELEBRITYLIKESBOOKSFACT.

Speaking of faces

spent a fair portion of Clogs set stood next Brian Eno.

Anyway despite the packedness it was a wonderful gig. Lots of hush for Clogs aswell, strangely curteous for London.

the books

were awesome - couldn't see a thing bar the visuals, which were wonderful, but i don't think it mattered.

clogs were a bit crap.

I love clogs..

...clever, sublte, forward thinking and affecting music. So much neoclassical stuff is wishy-washy bullshit, but they're brilliant.

I don't get all the fuss about Books, though. The Wire had their album as #1 of the year but it leaves me totally cold.

I saw them in Warwick

Preferred the Books, still liked the Clogs. But I was mostly dissapointed by the collabarative tracks. The Books seemed to loose their character and I felt the Clogs worked better without the extra instruments.
As a rule I preferred the Clogs when the drummer guy was on the drums - without percussion they kind of drifted off. Still good show though.

Clogs was good I thought

But mainly because of the hilarious violinist with hilarious face and hilarious over-expressive dramatic dancing and college-print-technician hair and face. </mean>

Books were revelatory. I love that band more than words can say. But guess what! I have to say it in words because I'm covering them for DiS.

*did you know!

Clogs' guitarist is in The National.

YES

didnt everyone know that?
come on, brainers, keep up! :D

so's the violinist...

...sort of. He plays on the albums and at most of their live shows.
