'Pain Killer', from their forthcoming second album 'Ether Song' out March 3rd, entered the charts at 5. Other entries of note include The Music at 18 with 'The Truth Is No Words' and Mull Historical Society at 32 with "The Final Arrears"

Turin Brakes go Top 5

I love this song, and thought The Optimist LP was pretty smart as well, but would never have pegged ver Brakes as a band who would even trouble the top 40. Well, stranger things have happened...

big deal...

What was really cool was seeing Violent Delight make 25 with nearly no media support outside of Music Week. Touring St Alban's premier youth clubs works kids!

Re: big deal...

as does a major label buying a fuckload of singles.

they're terrible.

Re: big deal...

hey, i think VD rock, and seein as the single was 99p each, i wouldnt be surprised if people were influenced to buy it even if they didnt know who they were! i mean, come on, its called "wish i was a girl" and has a parental advisory sticker. Everyone probably bought it!

Re: big deal...

VD and TB used the same 99p trick - I bought TB because of it. VD did well to make 25 given the lack of media support. And there was no "buying in" by the label, the product manager was as happily surprised as everyone else. Previous VD material has charted at 93 and 150-something!
