Hey, anyone from Dis from the Southampton area? Just moved back after a few years away, is there much of an alternative music scene?

Will

this thread have a fight with the Portsmouth one in a minuite?

I hope so

On Harry Hill

What...

Are the chances of that happening, I mean?

Jamie Summers

lives in Southampton, I think Thommo does or did. There's a band called Dead Dead Dead from Scumhampton who are ok and you've got the Joiners so you won't die of music thirst.

Plus you can always drive to the Wedgewood Rooms in about 30 mins!

Smileadelic.

65daysofstatic

are playing at the joiners arms on the 5th of april. go and see them. that's all the music scene you need.

Thanks!

cheers guys, I may be in Southampton but from portsmouth, so... not much chance of a fight! Will keep an ear out 65day's

cheers again M

Didn't Colin claim it was a shithole in the last DiS radio thing?

Still, he blaimed bamos for everything that was wrong too...

Actually it could have been sean. I can't tell them apart except when they both speak and Colin's louder.

I used to live seven miles from Southampton

Don't go back there much now.

Alternative clubs are few and far between - I'm sure there's been progress but in my day it was the Dungeon or the Nexus or nowt, basically. Oh, or the Rhino on a Wednesday.

The Academy used to do indie nights I think.

In a way I kinda miss it. Kinda...

Oh, and the Joiners beer is

fucking rank.

Good morrow fellow Southampton person

No, there isn't much of a "scene" here. But then again, I don't really go out that much so I may be wrong ;-)

I should of course plug my own band at this point, but we don't have a myspace or any of this new-fangled stuff yet, so that'll have to wait for another thread.

As a side note, I've always been impressed at the disproportionately large number of DiSers that seem to be from Southampton or Portsmouth. Weird!

it's got more of a 'scene'

than Bournemouth though *frown*

I went

to Uni in Bournemouth.

It was shit for music.

I was in school with this guy

who was obsessed with Bournemouth. He wasn't a mate or anything, but literally every conversation I had with him was about Bournemouth.

Aye

although Art Brut do partially hail from here, so it's not all bad. Same everyone's too drunk to care, or something.

I'm here!

I live in Southampton but I'm not up with the local music scene. Although I have been to a Dead Dead Dead gig - they're ace! The Brook is a great venue now it's been refurbished but all they get is tribute bands.

They had THE FALL there last year though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was good.

i could send you a list of Southampton bands if you like? Or you could check out SouthScene or Ejector Seat or something.

Southscene

southscene is a really good site, thanks for recommending that, the Brenda gig next wed looks really good, shame I've just signed up for the company footie team!

i was in uni in

southampton......in my day it was the academy, rhino's, ikon and diva, kaos, joiners arms, and some pubs around the city centre...old fat cat, goose and granite etc

fond memories of the place i really do have....but i couldnt wait to get out of there in the end....the whole student scene was really doing my head in!
