Gorillaz and Blur mainman Damon Albarn is to co-write a screenplay, alongside award-winning playwright Roy Williams, on the everyday hustle and bustle of Notting Hill.
Albarn used to live in North Kensington, a stone's throw from Notting Hill, and is focusing on the area's multiculturalism. The final piece will potentially be shown in 2007 at The National Theatre. Don't expect it to play out like the Richard Curtis film of 1999...
National Theatre director Nicholas Hytner said:
"The piece will be about the diverse culture that is Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill. Damon is one of the most unique and inventive musicians of the moment.
"They have been working on it for the past nine months and I have been absolutely thrilled by the stuff they have been producing together."
there was this film about notting hill once
i think it was called 'the bus that couldn't slow down'
BOOM BOOM
its all the rage to quote family guy
"It gon' Rain!"
simpsons quotes?
that's so 1998.
(this is the bit where it turns out i've got my cartoons wrong, it's not the simpsons, and i look like a fool)
Will this Notting Hill...
have black people in?
yes
but all played by hugh grant.
the first ever teddy boy stabbing
happened in notting hill just before the riots - its quite a grim story and puts out 'hoods in hoodies' stabbing 'best ofs' to shame
my teddy had holes in it too
but my only crime was loving it too much.
I like Damon Albarn
I mean, I don't particularly like HIM, but I think he gets a bad rep considering some of the music he's helped create
This sounds pretty weird though
Lay off Albarn
He does good varied stuff and his hearts in the right place.
Are you mental?
the man is a genius, I can't wait to see what he comes up with.
