How to ruin a perfectly good tune. First of all start off with a nice big rolling beat and a pinch of bass. Let this simmer for about half a minute until juices are flowing. The people will really be loving this.
Then add simple plucking of string instrument. This gives the piece a real far-eastern flavour and will convey feelings of Vietnam movies gone by. Then just as your public are really getting in to the tune, lay down an annoying guitar sample, stripped into snippets of what sound like interference with the faint idea that it will complement the soundscape you had previously created.
To finish do exactly the same with the other track on the single to the point where anyone listening will be thinking of checking their stereo equipment for faults. Et voila.
Now just wait for the plaudits to roll in exalting you as an 'experimental' musician. What a waste.

Four Tet - She Moves She
Mr. Dan Roberts, have you ever uttered the words:
"I only like formulaic safe nice friendly music thank you pleashhh" perchance?!?
The Four Tet material is clearly a beautiful piece of work, especially (in part) because of the "white noise" as you so eloquently called it. This adds a harsh emotive edge to the track that without; could have ended up being just another middle of the road well produced "ambient" offering that is safe and nice for the masses. Don't take any notice of this guy - Dan open up your mind a little bit and let some light in. Cos at the moment it seems like all the doors are closed in your dark damp cellar of thoughts.
Re: Four Tet - She Moves She
Haven't even heard the new stuff yet (judgin by previous efforts I'd expect it to be pretty good) but still. A bit of creatively applied white noise (might even be pink, black, brown or grey noise for all the audio geeks out there) always goes down well. Although those prefering bland radio-safe lemon jelly style dance records you might not agree...
then again maybe four tet has let us down but I'd be surprised frankly if that were true
Re: Four Tet - She Moves She
I haven't heard anything else by Four Tet but if this is anything to go by then they can keep their dreary dreamscapes....oh how very closed minded of me!
*gasps theatrically*
