The first album, in fact I've just listened to it. I really should sniff out the second one, is it actually out properly yet? Thing is though, I'm always a little wary of buying second albums after loving a band's debut 'cos I'm scared it won't be as good...
was supposed to be this month as far as I know - though I guess it is getting a bit late in the month for that.
The import on Amazon is cheapo though, got it for about 6 quid when it came out in the US so worth a check there?
They should be getting way more press for it though. Shame.
any way, when shit like We are Boring Scientists, and Dirty Shitty Things sell out in like ten mins.
Stellastarr are a great band with some damn catchy songs and deserve to be fucking massive.
but "On My Own" is a bit, uhm, Mehhhh. I remember when they played T in the Park and they played it as a new song, and we were like, uh oh, new direction?
supporting the bravery (who we didnt stick around for by the way!) at Astoria - bloody brilliant, tho some of their stuff seemed a little sticky in patches and there sometimes seemed to be far more going on in the background than just the instruments on stage which is a bit of a shame! Had my piccy taken with Sean and nick from the strokes...
love the second album, tho the reviews have been shit so far which is a shame - about time they got a bit bigger. I mean The Killers were supporting stellastarr a few years ago - whats that all about...!
I liked the singles from the first album a lot (never got around to buying it, obviously) but Sweet Troubled Soul just leaves me cold in much the same way, to use that dreaded comparison, the Killers do. Is this album much the same, then?
One of my favourite bands, I wouldn't even bother buying them.
Call me stupid but I'd prefer to pay full price to see a band thet I love than pay 1p.
I wouldn't feel right.
That review is an utter fucking disgrace. Whatever my views on the NME's reportage/angle, as a piece of written English it is truly awful.
As for the AM record, I couldn't care, but that comment indicating stellastarr* deliberately delaying the release is 100% FALSE. They've been taken for mugs by Sony and have been totally mucked around and it's all out of their hands,. It's not like Shawn hit on moments of Mariah-esque delusions of grandeur. Do some fucking research NME, you hire kids to do just that n'est pas?
Fair enough, the guy didn't like the record, and yes, the titles of the tracks aren't great, and acusations of pomposity are easily levelled at them, but that's no reason to dislike something. In a "song vs title" situation, I think song wins.
Basically the sentiment is, if you're British, write catchy (but ultimatley non-challenging) songs then you're not worth the NME's time.
My adoration of the band is well know, but by Christ, that's not a review, there's no journalistic credability to that at all, no credible argument, nothing.
Harmonies for the Haunted is an absolutely brilliant album.
Its a new direction for the band sure, but an utterly brilliant one.
The Arctic Monkeys thing is pretty gay. Why even mention them at all?!
It's a fucking travesty when bands as amazing as stellastarr* are strugling to sell out venues, at the same time as Arctic Monkeys (who after a matter of months in the spotlight are getting boring already) are selling out everywhere they play, shit loads of albums sold. The NME only 'championed' them when it became clear something massive was stirring, they didn't like them from day one.
I don't want to turn this into a tirade aainst AM who have some good tunes, but stellastarr* might not be a s comercially popular, but they piss all over those lad from Sheffield.
they
deserve to be big. good band.
very good second album
but no single on it that could help them get big...
Such a shame !
I love
The first album, in fact I've just listened to it. I really should sniff out the second one, is it actually out properly yet? Thing is though, I'm always a little wary of buying second albums after loving a band's debut 'cos I'm scared it won't be as good...
Browno, do you use MSN?
PM me if you do as i can get you the second album.
I heard them
on some music channel this morning. I was so unimpressed
oooh
fight fight fight.
i too
like the first album, but havn't got around to buying the second....how do they compare marco?
The 2nd album
is far superior to the first. The first is a brilliant album, but the second just sounds so much more confident and more thought out.
ooo
im glad to hear that! is there a british release yet? or we still importing? tbc i have to go, will look i town, byeeeee
early next month
i think.
Hmmm
I think I'll go see Cats and Cats and Cats instead, and it will save me money...
the british release
was supposed to be this month as far as I know - though I guess it is getting a bit late in the month for that.

I saw...
a review in this weeks NME so I'd assume it would come out this monday.
They didn't like it those NME boys, perhaps the band don't wear cool clothes.
NME
are idiots... fuck em.
I didn't read it
but that's pretty sad considering how they creamed over them on their first album.
The single is set for the 27th, so maybe album soon after?
album is out....
on the 20th feb
who wants a stellastarr album? i think its the second. swap. its got some wispy girl on it. and its black.
I thought
Stellastarr would have been in the same kinda fame game as Franz, Futureheads et al by now.
The first lp was excellent and although Harmonies is indeed appallingly titled it doesnt disappoint.
A good follow up from a good band.
damn
rite.
I'm going to go see them....
on Staurday in Stoke.
Should be good.
Its a shame when great bands like this can't sell out venues, when shit like
dunno what happened....
any way, when shit like We are Boring Scientists, and Dirty Shitty Things sell out in like ten mins.
Stellastarr are a great band with some damn catchy songs and deserve to be fucking massive.
Some of their 2nd album is wicked
but it's too weak and overblown in places.
Still got a soft spot fopr them though.
I like most of it
but "On My Own" is a bit, uhm, Mehhhh. I remember when they played T in the Park and they played it as a new song, and we were like, uh oh, new direction?
WHAT?
ON MY OWN FUCKING RULES... AND IT'S AN OLD SONG ACTUALLY.
YOU DESERVE TO HAVE YOUR EARS CONFISCATED FOR AT LEAST A MONTH
jazzspaz
swap you blue lines by massive attack?
It's released on
my birthday! See, they're such a considerate band!
Single: 27th Feb
Album: Monday March 6th.
Disagree
Sweet Troubled Soul has a massive hook, and a catchy-as-leprosy riff.
Stay Entertained has a superb chorus, and is equally, if not more so, catchy.
Problem is, they've been totally usurped by the bands that they helped usher in: mention no names Flowers, and Endicott.
Oh, and they've been fucked over by their label too.
saw them at koko.....
a few weeks ago and thought they were better than ever live, but nit sure about HOTH.
I prefer it...
JUST. I think track for track its a better album than the self entitled, but theres no single of My Coco standards.
Damn this foolish heart
sees like a pretty good single to me, but im only on track 3 so far so we'll see.
I think his voice....
is better on this album as well, he's a really good singer, 4 DAYS TIL I GO SEE THEM!!!!
My Coco Girl
Is one of the best singles in the last few years.
Everything else they've done is utter dross, though.
i saw them last night
supporting the bravery (who we didnt stick around for by the way!) at Astoria - bloody brilliant, tho some of their stuff seemed a little sticky in patches and there sometimes seemed to be far more going on in the background than just the instruments on stage which is a bit of a shame! I think its ace....
DiS thought it was ok
http://www.drownedinsound.com/release/view/4218
someone selling,,,
4 tkts for stoke on ebay havent even had a bid yet only just over hour to go
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6607357131&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
Thats fuckin rediculous....
I've heard no one bidded.
they went
for 1p.
fucking joke
That is pathetic...
One of my favourite bands, I wouldn't even bother buying them.
Call me stupid but I'd prefer to pay full price to see a band thet I love than pay 1p.
I wouldn't feel right.
it was technically
only 0.25p as well, since it was for 4 tickets.
and you are stupid. but so am i because I completely agree.
stellastarr* a great band?
NME don't think so. Then again they think that all bands should pack up and leave now that the arctic monkeys are around
http://www.nme.com/reviews/stellastarr/7857
oh my god
they have to be taking the piss
the introduction to that review (arctic monkeys stuff) is fucked up.
ok they champion them. but that level of obsession is completely stupid. stellastarr* are a completely different sort of band from the monkeys.
you know what i'm saying here. fucking NME. I'm not being very coherent or interesting but I'm sure people will agree with me anyway. :-(
I agree with you about the NME review
... but it has to be said, the new album has taken a critical kicking all over the place..
well, so be it (haven't heard it)
but review it properly, guys, eh?
Fuck the Artic Monkeys up the arse
Anyway, I was listening to Stellastarr*'s first album again last night and it is sooooooo good. Shame they've changed so much. I was a hardcore fan.
Although I'd had a drink when I was listeing to it which makes everything 10 times better. But it's still brilliant.
Firstly
That review is an utter fucking disgrace. Whatever my views on the NME's reportage/angle, as a piece of written English it is truly awful.

Rant over
which is an absolute disgrace !
The NME review is
the worst written I've ever read. And it's wrong.
Damn Wrong.....
Harmonies for the Haunted is an absolutely brilliant album.
Its a new direction for the band sure, but an utterly brilliant one.
