If you haven’t heard ‘Clocks’ yet, you must be new to this planet... so greetings to Earth and all that. Coldplay have sold millions of records, all have showbiz girlfriends (well apart from the band members who aren’t Chris Martin, who erm... don’t talk much) and have jammed just about every auditorium in the world to the rafters with adoring fans. So how do you top that?

This is their third single off ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’ and they haven’t even put out ‘A Warning Sign’ yet, the best thing they’ve ever recorded. How such a simple insistent riff has such power must be pure alchemy (or maybe they had copy of 'The Joshua Tree' on the tourbus). It may be the accepted thing to indulge in a bit of tall, poppy trimming, but whilst Coldplay are still making records as great as this, it seems churlish to expect that. (You forgot to mention that it sounds like Simple Minds - Adie.)

Coldplay - Clocks

This song is fucking awful, with the most pathetic chrous I've ever heard. Utter drivel.

Re: Coldplay - Clocks

Yeah it sounds like a sky tv advert, makes my skin crawl...

Re: Coldplay - Clocks

coldplay-clocks

this song fucking rocks
one of my favourite of all time
FUCK ALL THOSE BASTARDS WHO HATE THIS SONG!

be fair

im not a fan of coldplay and i dislike them for their apparent 'world rockstar' status, but no one can deny that this is a cleverly crafted and well written pop song, which is ultimately all it is meant to be. The intro hook will inevitably be one of the defining sounds of music in the mid noughties, and frankly its easy to see why.
