After their first season without a release in the past nine years, Montréal based Constellation Records, home of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Do Make Say Think and Silver Mt Zion among others, have announced three upcoming releases for the spring period.

Glissandro 70 - Glissandro 70
Collaboration between Sandro Perri of CST band Polmo Polpo and Craig Dunsmuir of Guitareska; "a five-song full-length that circles at the intersection of pop song and extended dub, cribbed lyric and wordless chant, odd meter and straight beat".
Released: March 6.

Black Ox Orkestra - Nisht Azoy
Jewish anti-folk four-piece featuring members of Silver Mt Zion; "The second record by Montreal's Black Ox Orkestar places the group at the forefront of a 'new Jewish music' that rejects contemporary fusion and musty nostalgia in equal measure. With backgrounds in folk, punk-rock and free jazz, the group's four musicians distill Balkan, Central Asian, Arabic and Slavic sources into a coherent, impassioned sound that gives teeth to old Jewish songs."
Released: April 3.

Fue Thérése - Fue Thérése
Born from the ashes of the now defunct Fly Pan Am; "Channelling the explosive noise-rock collage of their brilliant live performances, this debut album pits a determined, careening rhythm section against a palette of pumping organ chords, shards of electric guitar, vocals often processed beyond recognition, and myriad swoops and squawks".
Released: April 17.

Following these will be the debut album from Carla Bozulich, which will hit our shores on May 15. Summer releases currently planned include a new Do Make Say Think LP, along with a live Silver Mt Zion record and a studio recording of their collaboration with Hangedup entitled War Radio. Silver Mt Zion will be touring the UK and Europe between late April and early June, with a date with Black Heart Procession confirmed for the June 6 at Koko, London

still no word

on a new gybe record then :(

seems to me like

efrim and the other main guys (guys?) are more focused on silver mt zion these days. perhaps could be waiting a while

I think the phrase

is 'permanent hiatus'

I don't want a new gy!be record frankly. They're my favourite band in the entire world and I rather they never did anything again. Yanqui UXO was the sound of them running out of ideas. There's much more life in Silver Mt Zion and some of the other side projects.

the rumour is:

as cst39 hasnt been announced, but 38, 40 and 41 have that this will be a new GY!BE album. apparently six members of GY!BE have been recording parts unrelated to existing side projects.

however, i dont know how far to believe this.

I am Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Not really.

They are indeed a mighty ensemble, but just about everything on Constellation is brilliant. They're worth buying for the artwork alone.

The Glissandro 70 album is wonderfully barmy.

how'd

you hear it?

would you be willing to schmend some mp3s?

Rumour

it is factually correct that 6 members of gy!be have been back in the studio, as godspeed, however this does not guarentee a new record. it is also rumoured moya is back

why go on

about godspeed? the last couple of do make say think albums are incredible. as long as theyre touring the next release over here, you should be happy enough

I second that

I eagerly await a new Do Make Say Think album. Yanqui UXO was a bit average really (exception of Rockets fall..), and DMST have got still got loads more potential than godspeed.

!

I had the Black Ox Orcestra album once, it was horrible.

Yay for new and live SMZ albums though. Yay indeed.

BOO...

...are darned good. Klezmer music's wonderful: so full of life, yet weighed down by so indescribable melancholy. The scales they use are beautiful.
