Popular indie-rockin' types Bloc Party have been talking to US entertainment rag Rolling Stone about their second album.
Bassist Gordon Moakes tells the magazine that the band's next long-play release will differ from their debut, Silent Alarm. Of course, every musician the world over says this, but do read on:
"There's always a danger that you can disappoint people when you do something different. With us, we've retained some of that jerkiness but we didn't want to do anything that we've already done. There's a lot of gentle stuff, but we don't want to have a gentle record.
"We're looking to expand more along the lines of Radiohead, but it's obviously a bit early to kind of imagine yourself in that mould. We're working towards not being afraid to make music out of quite difficult sounds and have things quite processed. We want to get more texture into what we do, and not have it just like a rock record."
at least the boys
have ambition, right ?
Agreed
Rather they said that than 'Oooh, we'll do the same again, the kids liked it'.
And the first comment to appear on here along the lines of 'Bloc Party aren't fit to try on Radiohead's underwear, let alone try and emulate them' can eat my shoes. It's predictable and not funny. There.
yeah
but i just wish they'd play to their strengths.
all the 'gentle' stuff so far has been bland, whereas the punky early stuff was fantastic.
yeah I agree
all of the slow ones have been pretty dull or bordering on coldplay-ness.
I hope they progress in a good way.
.
hmm, that's a shame. Imho they need to go the total opposite of their terrible 'two more years' whinge, and rock their asses off in a less calculated way...less layering, and more bombast!
well
if this means they are going to not be mediocre any more then it's a good thing surely?
this lot
could either become the best band of this generation, or produce a set of albums each one slightly worse than the previous, and end up like the Bluetones or Ocean Colour Scene.
I think Bloc Party have the potential for greatness...
Bloc party have potential for greatness
I agree with you
Please
leave The Bluetones out of this... I love them unrequitedly.
I just hope...
...the new stuffs not like "Two More Years"! How did it go again? Two more years...two more years...two more years...ummm...two more years?
I have to admit, it was catchy...but in a bad way like that flippin beep beep song from the pussygalore girls!
well....
i hope that they do a fantastic 2nd album, i really slated this band at first but upon recently re hearing the album thought it was really good, i think they can evolve into a fantastic band like radiohead,
wasnt the call for bends part II before ok computer came out?? sounds a little familiar too that. pushing against expectations!!
I think...
they will be one of very few survivors of the current batch of new bands. As long as their quality control is still as high as it was on the first album they will be fine.
I think they have enough intelligent to see the road infront of them and where they need to tread and where they need to avoid.
I
saw Bloc Party live on MTV2 yesterday.
CRAP.
NO
they are GREAT live, I loved every moment of it (apart from when they playe Two More Years, that was boring. Silent Alarm is one of my fave albums ever, I'm surprised I still haven't got bored of it, that's how I know it's good.
Silent Alarm = Pablo Honey?
I didn't think it was too great, but I actually liked 2 more years.
I fear
they're heading for the land of Wallpaper Music. Two More Years was very listenable, but hardly arresting :/
Two More Years
wasn't actually that bad, despite my hatred of soft indie shit.
But more punky stuff please Kele.
*whisper*
I liked Two More Years.
christ
they fucking boring, they havent a ball between them and they look like bloody GAP models in their videos, especially the re-shot banquet one with the lovely circular hues and fringe of considerable angle. And by the way - the frontmans is in no way a serious poetic soul (as he pertains) but a smug, humourless clod.
plain
wrong. leave and never return.
Two More Years
Actually had a completley different ending on the special edition of Silent Alarm, which I think is A LOT better, as the ending was the only thing I didnt really like on it in the first place, with the quick fadeout n that....
As always...
...No Rock&Roll Fun gets it spot on:

hmm
if we use strings on our first single, will that be okay?
agreed
no sound is more soul destroying than hearing an indie band discovering the violin.
gash
judging by the new stuff they're playing at shows, My Architects' second album sounds like it'll blow everyone away, nevermind BP and their forthcoming 'Radiohead phase'.
I'm looking forward to it
Think some of the slower stuff was okay not as good as the faster songs, but the new songs from the last tours has shown that they are doing something interesting and moving away from the generic bunch of indie jerks. although we shouldnt make a big deal over the radiohead comment. come on, i doubt they even mean that
yeah i agree
about bloc party being at their best when they stay away from the slower stuff.
Two more years was dire.
?
how over rated are radiohead?when did they become rock gods?bause they experimented with other sounds?bands off the chart map having been doing things like that for years!before radiohead did.not saying they are shit, just saying they are well overated.its music you like because its cool to like but if you really listen its too hard on the ears at times.
bloc party seem unpredictable which is pleasent!
