Who would win in a fight?

Not really, who's the better band. I would say 65Days as old Explosions is a little ropey in places. INNIT.

65dos kick explosions ass i say

exposions are a little 'by numbers' i find
*disclaimer = this poster has not heard that much material by explosions in the sky but has a two albums by 65dos*

65daysofstatic

would easily win, they're music is massively original.

to quote a coursemate this morning

"mogwai with a drum machine"

actually it might not have been him who said it, it might've been me

Haven't heard much by either

but based on what I HAVE heard 65DoS every time.

two of my favourite bands...

i know they both fall into this catch-all phrase of "post-rock" but i don't really think they're that comparable.

agreed.

Raz is behind you!

So

someone hasnt done a great remix of these two bands then.

!

As much as I love some EITS stuff, even first album, I'd go with Static...

Not comparing or anything but I like them more.

EITS do go on a bit sometimes...Rescue EP aside...thats nice and short 'n' sweet...

65days could take on the world, Godzilla style

EITS wouldn't stand a chance!

Seriously though, 65dos rule the world, so you should learn to bow down before them, lest I smite thee with their epic post-math-glitch-rock.
Then you will know that their name is the lord.

;)

oooh....

retreat! retreat vs. first breath after coma?

EITS every time.

wut?

ho is EITS?

Explosions

In
The
Sky

E.I.T.S

see?

erm, yeah

i get it...
'twas a fairly poor joke, meant to imply a total lack of knowledge about the relevant musical area, when in fact i have all the albums of both artists, and like them both very much(although 65dos more!)

Do you see?

no

:(

:)

i don't really get

the love for 65dos. Put an average post-rock band together with some average electronica and everyone thinks they're the best thing since sliced bread. I don't think they're a terrible band, it just all sounds a bit contrived and calculated to me, and ultimately leaves me cold.

That's not to say that EITS are particularly groundbreaking either, but i find their music far more enjoyable to listen to.

Ok...

I agree with that comment about 65dos though I still quite like them. It has to be EINTS every time. In terms of being ground breaking I would say that EITS are deffinately ground breaking, they're not simply formulaic post-rock, their sound is so much more lush than many before them and basically they have better tunes than 65dos.

No Contest!

EITS are ok, and I have enjoyed listening to them at times.
But, 65dos are hardly ever off my ipod or cd playlist.
After seeing them for the first time an age ago upstairs at Garage I have been a massive fan ever since.
So...no contest.

65dos

EITS are a bit forgetfull. Plus I'm hopefully finally gonna see them in a month. If I don't then its definatly EITS just because Ill be so pissed off

EITS every time.

I played The Fall of Math to death when I got it, and have played the new one twice I think. It's just sort of.... meh.

Both bands are one-trick ponies of sorts, it's just that EITS's pony is much better.

I've never

gotten much further than 'First Breath' with EITS, despite being a big fan of their genre, everything else I've heard sounds a bit samey, and I get bored of them really quickly (not an attention-span thing, I'll happily listen to GY!BE albums start-to-finish). 65DOS are more varied, more dynamic and just more instantly likeable I think. They're quite different bands though, not that comparable...

Psssh

Explosions In The Sky fucking own 65DOS. Consistently inventive, beautiful, heartfelt music. The guitarists in 65DOS need to learn how to deviate from playing the same three chords as the other in every song.

...

Incidentally, I'm also currently listening to Liberation by Trans Am which is an example of a more interesting direction that the whole electronica-meets-post-rock thing could take.

65dos

65daysofstatic for me everytime! EITS did nothing for me when I saw them a couple of months ago.

EITS

As much as 65dos rock...it's just GOTTA be EITs. Music to watch the world go by. and i like watching the world go by...

Ooh

nearly a 50-50 split. I knew it was a good question by me *smug*

I reckon 65dos but some EITS, especially THe Earth is Not a Cold Dead PLace is amazing.

Thing is I listened to that album on repeat whilst playing puzzle fighter for an entire day and now when I think about it, I see colour blocks everywhere.

Nothing

to choose between them. Both bands rate 10/10 as far as I'm concerned.

Both amazing live. Both created brilliant albums.

Nothing between 'em.

EITS

65 are *heavily* inspired by EITS and Mogwai. Christ, Retreat Retreat even rips off the first riff of Ithica 27o9. I also don't understand how 65 can lift the structure of so much EITS stuff yet still not make a single proper song out of it.

And personally I prefer to hear bands play their own music at gigs rather than strumming a few chords to their backing tracks.

Do Make Say Think

is the answer.

Chris Clark trounces both. Boo-yeah.
