As we sit facing the harshest March for years, The Concretes' eternal sunshine should be comforting. Unfortunately it seems The Concretes have forgotten to add the charms and childish energy that made 'You Can’t Hurry Love' and the rest of their earlier tracks so memorable, and instead taken the ‘Twee 101’ route.
Which means that on 'The Chosen One', the first track from their upcoming new album, you have the acoustic guitars, the sighing female vocals, the cute lyrics, but nothing that separates it from something that’s been done a thousand times before. Points of reference are of course Belle & Sebastian and Stereolab, but the end result wouldn’t sound out of place on a Magic Numbers b-side collection.
'Reverberation' fares better than the a-side, Lisa Milberg’s vocals sounding stronger with the accompaniment of a single electric guitar and calming synth parts, but again it's instantly forgettable.
This release, like The Concretes' output overall, is harmless and in the right atmosphere quite pleasant, but it's not something that’s going to warrant repeated plays, at least outside of a saccharine induced stupor.
Romeo stodart
The concretes have been corrupted by the magic numbers, replacing sunshine with moaning and swedish good looks with obesity.
Hit...
the nail on the head. Compared to the singles from the first album its pales in comparrison. Alright to fall asleep to tho.
it's actually...
...the fourth track from their new album, if my promo is correct; unless you mean the first track to be taken from their new album...?
Oh, and it hasn't got 'the' in the title. Sorry; me=picky.
I like this song. The Concretes have always been quite interestingly-Swedishly-twee, it's almost their 'thing,' and I don't think song has failed them enough to warrant a 5/10.
I'm equally as horrified by Romeo's appearance, though (on the Concretes album, that is; ahem).
hello
yes. i meant the first single from them.
and yr right about 'the' not being in the title. but im too lazy to change it.

At 1st listen, the song is a bit dull but once you get into it, you'll fall in love with it! At least that's what happened to me and now I like it as much as Seems Fine and You Can't Hurry Love
8.5/10
